Paul George to 76ers: How Have the Betting Odds Shifted?
The NBA's free agency period is here, and player movement is underway.
One of the marquee signings thus far centers on Paul George, who will sign with the Philadelphia 76ers on a four-year, $212 million maximum contract.

Not only that, but the team also agreed to terms on a five-year, $205 million max contract with Tyrese Maxey.

Paul George to 76ers Betting Impact
As of June 26th, the 76ers had +1200 odds to win the NBA Finals.
After news of George's signing (and Maxey's re-signing), their odds now sit at +850. That ranks them third in the NBA behind the Boston Celtics (+300) and Denver Nuggets (+800) and tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder (+850).
They were also +700 to win the Eastern Conference. They're now down to +400 and have overtaken the New York Knicks (now +450).
The Atlantic Division odds are really top-heavy on these three teams.

What It Means for the 76ers
Based on my NBA power ratings model, which accounts for underlying player data, win shares, and more, the 76ers' addition of Paul George and retaining of Maxey rates out very positively (as expected).
As such, based solely on team strength (not their actual schedule draw), they should play like the league's second-best team -- behind only the Celtics and just at the top of a large Tier 2.
The Atlantic Division is going to be a tough draw again in 2024-25. Three of the top-five teams by title odds come from the division. I don't think anybody can argue that -- nor can anybody argue the impact George could make in Philadelphia.
