Stash List: 3 Players to Stash in Fantasy Football Entering NFL Week 5

Fantasy Players to Stash at a Glance

  • Nicholas Singleton, RB, Titans
  • Cyrus Allen, WR, Chiefs
  • CJ Donaldson, RB, Saints

If you're consistently a step ahead of the competition in your fantasy football league, it can help you win a title, and this weekly piece will aim to help you stay ahead of the pack.

The goal here is to help you identify players who could be hot waiver adds down the road as well as to point out week-ahead pickups who could prove useful.

Here are some players to consider adding now and stashing on your bench for the future.

Fantasy Football Stash Candidates: Week 5

Nicholas Singleton, RB, Titans

With the Tennessee Titans‘ season going nowhere, Tony Pollard is a logical trade candidate, and that makes Nicholas Singleton an interesting stash.

Pollard is in the last year of his deal and is still a serviceable runner. He could help a few teams out there, and Adam Schefter recently mentioned Pollard as a player who could eventually be on the move.

If Pollard ends up being dealt, Singleton might have the leg up on Tyjae Spears for early-down work. A fifth-round pick last spring, Singleton has handled just seven carries so far this campaign but was a proven producer in college at Penn State. In deeper formats, he’s a solid end-of-bench stash.

Cyrus Allen, WR, Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs lost two wideouts last week, one of whom (Tyquan Thornton) is going to be out a while. That could result in Cyrus Allen getting a chance.

Allen played only five snaps last week, so there’s a very real chance he doesn’t see too much of a playing-time bump even with KC short-handed. However, the Chiefs are pretty dang short on bodies at WR, and if Allen’s role grows, he gives you exposure to a KC offense that has looked great through four weeks.

Even though you may end up dropping Allen in a week or two, he’s a viable speculative add who could pay off if Rashee Rice ends up being out for a couple games.

CJ Donaldson, RB, Saints

Digging deep for this one, CJ Donaldson caught my eye last night in the New Orleans Saints‘ loss.

Travis Etienne is on IR and Alvin Kamara got banged up during the game. That put Kendre Miller into an elevated role, but Miller struggled mightily, turning six carries into only nine yards.

The Saints then turned to Donaldson, who handled three rushing attempts and racked up 18 yards while also catching both of his targets. Donaldson ended up tying Kamara for the highest snap rate among Saints RBs in Week 5 (38%).

At a minimum, this is a backfield that is in flux for as long as Etienne is out. Donaldson is someone worth tracking in the short term and would be worth an add if Kamara has to miss any time.

Fantasy Football Stashes FAQ

What is a stash in fantasy football?

A fantasy football stash is a player who may not have much immediate value but could become a useful fantasy starter later in the season. Stashes are typically backups, rookies, or players whose roles could grow as the year progresses. Stashing them allows you to acquire the player before he becomes a hot waiver wire pickup.

What types of players should I stash in fantasy football?

Prioritize players with clear paths to larger roles. Backup running backs, talented rookies, and wide receivers earning increased playing time are often strong stash candidates because their fantasy value can rise quickly.

How many players should I stash on my fantasy football bench?

That depends on your league and roster size, but using one or two bench spots on high-upside players is generally worthwhile. The deeper the league, the more valuable it becomes to identify potential breakout players before they become popular waiver-wire additions.

When should I drop a fantasy football stash?

Consider moving on if the player's path to playing time disappears or if a more valuable option becomes available. Stashes should offer meaningful upside, so there is little reason to hold a player whose role or opportunity is trending in the wrong direction. As we get closer to the fantasy playoffs, you may need to prioritize winning now over stashing someone for the future.
