Lakers vs. Warriors Game 5 Analysis

The Lakers have been one of the strongest defensive teams in the playoffs this year. Their average of 106.5 points allowed per game ranks fifth-fewest among playoff teams, and they lead all playoff teams in rebounds (47.7) and blocks (7.5) per game. They’ve done a great job not giving away free points, too, limiting their opponent to just 16.6 free throw attempts per game.

The Warriors have certainly felt the Lakers’ defensive presence so far in this series and are averaging just 109.2 points per game through four contests. That’s a significant dip relative to the 118.9 points per game the Dubs' averaged in the regular season, which ranked as the second-most in the league.

In fact, the Warriors' series average of 109.2 points per game would have ranked worst among all teams in the regular season. There’s room for positive regression for the Warriors in that regard, but they’ll need to figure it out quickly as they face elimination.
