SHOTGUN (8) won comfortably two back before sitting on the speed again last time out when beaten 1.8L on the turf course over 7f. Different scenario here, though he rates highly on the back of that effort and he can find the front from an inside draw. Leading contender. SUPREME AGILITY (1) flew home over this course and distance last time out after sitting wide and with cover throughout. Likely to get back in the run again this time but should be fitter for the fresh effort. Goes well over this track and trip and can make an impression. CALIFORNIA STAR (4) disappointed last start when jumping favourite over 1 ?m after a few strong performances over this distance prior. Back to his preferred trip now and Purton remains in the saddle. Needs some luck from the draw but he can be flying late in the race. SHANGHAI STYLE (5) has to be included on the back of his latest effort.

Also known as a pacemaker; this is a horse with no expected chance of winning but is used to prompt a quick pace on the front end of the race to the benefit of a stablemate who is a closer.

Claiming Race

A race in which horses are entered for a certain price, or claiming tag, which is also their sales price. An owner can claim any horse entered for the tag before the race begins, and owns them as soon as the gates open.

Main Track Only

A horse entered for main track only (MTO) is one hoping the weather forecast or track conditions will move the race off the turf course and onto the main track. They are scratched the morning of the race if the conditions stay dry.
