Thursday Night Football gives us an intriguing NFC West matchup as the Los Angeles Rams face the San Francisco 49ers in Australia in the second game of the 2026 NFL season.

Both teams enter the matchup with plenty of expectations, making this an interesting early-season test for two NFC contenders. With divisional familiarity and plenty of offensive firepower on both sides, there are several betting angles worth considering.

The Los Angeles Rams have won the offseason, and while they very well may win this game, I’m intrigued by the San Francisco 49ers against the spread at this 3.5 number.

These teams split their two meetings a season ago, with Mac Jones leading San Fran to a 26-23 overtime victory in LA. The Rams are loaded, but don’t sleep on the 49ers. Brock Purdy posted the second-best QBR of his career last year (72.8) despite both he and the team dealing with injuries, and San Francisco has one of the NFL’s top coaches in Kyle Shanahan. The Niners enter the year with the seventh-best Super Bowl odds — they’re no slouch.

With 3.5 getting us access to the key number 3, I’m comfortable backing the underdog Niners to keep it tight in Australia on Thursday.

Brock Purdy 15+ Rushing Yards (-166)

In his career, Purdy has run a lot more in losses than he has in wins, which puts me on this rushing prop with the 49ers listed as ‘dogs.

In 16 career losses, Purdy has averaged 19.9 rushing yards per game. That’s well up from his average of 9.4 rushing yards per game across 33 wins.

He’s also run for an average of 16.3 yards per game against the Rams in his career.

Purdy’s standard rushing prop is 17.5 for this game. Since I think the Niners keep this close, I’m going to play it safe and bump down to an alternate line of Purdy 15+ rush yards.

Under 48.5 Points (-115)

While each side has plenty of talent on offense, they’re also strong defensively.

The Rams may have the best defense in the league, even with Aaron Donald not suiting up today. San Fran isn’t quite on that level, but they’re a solid defense that is healthier now than they were for much of the 2025 season.

In addition to that, the long travel to Australia coupled with both teams potentially working through some Week 1 offensive kinks could lead to a lower-scoring game than the market suggests.

All in all, the under is the side I want to be on.
