3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Friday 6/16/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for tonight's main slate.

Bryan Woo, SP, Seattle Mariners ($6,500)

Bryan Woo made his debut for the Seattle Mariners earlier this month, and his first start wasn't pretty. He turned things around in his second start, though, and has a good matchup tonight.

Woo has just 6.2 MLB innings under his belt, but he has shown the ability to strike Major League hitters out. He has 11 strikeouts versus just two walks in that limited sample. His numbers in Double-A suggest he has solid swing-and-miss stuff, as he had a 34.3% strikeout rate and a 12.3% swinging-strike rate.

The Mariners are hosting the Chicago White Sox on Friday. This White Sox lineup is not particularly good against right-handed pitchers, ranking 22nd in weighted on-base average (wOBA) and 24th in weighted runs created plus (wRC+). They also strike out at the 12th-highest clip.

The MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook like Seattle's chances of winning tonight, making them -130 favorites. Chicago has the second-lowest implied team total on the slate. Woo comes in as the best value pitcher, according to numberFire's model, making him a great option for tournaments.

Jake Bauers, 1B, New York Yankees ($2,600)

Jake Bauers is experiencing a career resurgence with the New York Yankees. After not playing in the Majors last season, he has become a player the Yankees have needed in their lineup.

Bauers has never been a prolific power hitter in his career, but his .233 isolated slugging percentage (ISO) this season is definitely respectable. He's done a great job when he has the platoon advantage, too, with a .341 wOBA versus righties this season. He'll have that advantage tonight against a pitcher who has struggled against left-handed hitters.

Tanner Houck will be on the mound for the Boston Red Sox against New York. Houck has been roughed up by lefties this season, allowing a .354 wOBA and a .246 ISO.

The Yankees have a healthy implied team total of 4.86 runs, and Bauers should be batting leadoff. For just $2,600, you could certainly do worse.

Jesus Sanchez, OF, Miami Marlins ($2,700)

The Miami Marlins have some exciting young players, including Jesus Sanchez. He's having a breakout season at age 25 and is in a position to have success tonight.

Sanchez has career highs in numerous categories this season, which include a .367 wOBA and a 134 wRC+. His batted-ball profile is looking really solid, as well, as he's getting barrels 12.5% of the time.

The matchup against Trevor Williams is not one that should concern the Marlins. Williams has a 5.32 fielding independent pitching (FIP), to go along with allowing a ton of hard contact and fly balls. His 43.8% fly-ball rate is the highest of his career, and opponents are able to barrel the ball 12.8% of the time. This is a recipe for allowing a lot of homers.

Sanchez will have the platoon advantage and likely bat cleanup in a lineup that's in a great situation tonight. He's a bargain at $2,700, and playing outfield makes it fairly easy to roster him on this slate.
