Emma Navarro has emerged as a surprise contender to win the tournament after emphatically defeating world No. 2 Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday, a match that left Gauff visibly flustered and out of sync. Doing that to a former Grand Slam champion is no small feat for Navarro, who's into her first major quarterfinals and is now +380 to win Wimbledon behind just Elena Rybakina (+115).

The 23-year-old will be facing another player who's experienced a recent breakthrough in Jasmine Paolini, the runner-up of this year's French Open. Prior to this season, Paolini had never advanced past the second round of a major, and she's up to a career-high No. 7 in the rankings.

However, Paolini is 28 years old, making it easy to question whether her recent run is sustainable, and she might not even be alive in this tournament had she not benefited from Madison Keys retiring due to injury in the previous round. Before this edition of Wimbledon, Paolini had a career 0-3 record in the Wimbledon main draw and 1-6 overall at the All England Club if we include qualifying matches.

Additionally, Navarro carries a dominant 3-0 head-to-head record over Paolini, and while none of the matches came on grass, all three meetings have come over the last 52 weeks.

Tennis Abstract and Massey Ratings both project a 57% win probability for Navarro. While there isn't any value in backing her as a -196 moneyline favorite, she covered this spread in all three career matches against Paolini and has also done so in three of her four 2024 Wimbledon matches.
