When Can We Expect to See Aaron Judge Back?
At the 2023 All-Star break, it is quite evident that the New York Yankees (49-42) are struggling without their captain, Aaron Judge.
Injury Update
Currently 8.0 games behind the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays, the Bronx Bombers still have no definitive timetable for Judge's return.
Aaron Judge told reporters that he’s started light hitting drills, including hitting off a tee and taking some soft toss in the cage.

Judge doesn't have a clear return timetable yet, but said he is not undergoing in-season surgery.https://t.co/lC0ikQr7kh
Judge has been out of action since June 4th -- when he crashed into the right-field fence while making a fantastic catch against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The highlight-reel play resulted in torn ligaments in his right big toe.

Injury Prognosis
It can be tough to speculate with an injury of this nature, especially for a player of Judge's gargantuan size (6-foot-7). Already, he has missed the previous five weeks with the injury, which has resulted in only 49 games played for Judge this year.
Despite missing significant time, Judge has already blasted 19 home runs. With an OPS of 1.078 in limited time throughout 2023, Judge's absence has left a huge hold in the middle of the Yanks' order. New York is 19-23 this year in games that Judge does not play.
Recently, former MLB player (and brother of Yankee skipper Aaron Boone) Bret Boone offered his opinion to CBS Radio that Judge will be ready to go soon after the second half resumes.
New York Yankees' Betting Odds
In a hyper-competitive division, the Yankees are long shots to win the AL East, per the AL East odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. But with a healthy Judge, New York has a puncher's chance.
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Tampa Bay Rays | -300 |
Baltimore Orioles | +550 |
New York Yankees | +950 |
Toronto Blue Jays | +1100 |
Boston Red Sox | +8000 |
The current situation still leaves the Yanks with favorable odds (-140) to make the 2023 postseason, and they're listed at +1500 to win the next World Series.
