Timberwolves vs. Heat: NBA Prediction, Picks and Prop Bets (Oct. 21)

Timberwolves vs. Heat Top Bets at a Glance

  • Bam Adebayo 2+ Made Threes (-138)
  • Under 240.5 Total Points (-110)

The NBA regular season gets underway for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat on Wednesday night, and the matchup brings plenty of intrigue after both teams made notable offseason changes.

With FanDuel Sportsbook’s NBA odds setting the game as essentially a toss-up and posting one of the night's highest totals, there are several ways to attack the matchup.

Which bets stand out for today’s Timberwolves-Heat clash?

Bam Adebayo 2+ Made Threes (-138)

2+ Made Threes

I'm going back to a prop that was kind to us on a few occasions last season: Bam Adebayo to hit at least two threes.

Adebayo's transformation into a legitimate perimeter shooter continued in 2025-26. He attempted a career-high 5.5 three-pointers per game and knocked down 1.7 per night. His 400 total three-point attempts were nearly twice as many as the 221 he took the previous season.

The volume is enough to make two made triples attainable despite his 31.8% conversion rate. He also closed last regular season with multiple makes in three of his final five games, hitting 3 of 6 from deep against Washington, 2 of 4 against Toronto and 2 of 4 in another meeting with Washington.

With Giannis Antetokounmpo now in the fold, Bam should continue to be asked to — at times — operate as a floor spacer to keep the paint open for Giannis, especially if Rudy Gobert is guarding Bam.

Today’s matchup should also feature plenty of possessions. The Minnesota Timberwolves-Miami Heat total sits at a sky-high 240.5.

With Adebayo coming off a season in which more than one-third of his field-goal attempts came from behind the arc, I like his chances of knocking down at least two.

I'm willing to fade the lofty total.

Miami's home games averaged just 236.8 combined points last season, a few points below tonight's number. The Heat also saw 18 of their 41 home games finish under the posted total last year.

There's also reason to expect at least some early-season offensive growing pains. Both teams enter 2026-27 with meaningful changes to their rotations, and opening night isn't necessarily the ideal environment for offenses to operate at peak efficiency. Even a solid offensive showing from both sides can fall short when the market is asking for 241 combined points to get to the over.

NBA Betting Frequently Asked Questions

What is the point spread in NBA betting?

The point spread is a handicap applied to the favored team to level the playing field. For example, if the Lakers are -6.5 against the Celtics, the Lakers must win by 7 or more points for a bet on them to pay out. A bet on the Celtics wins if Boston wins outright or loses by 6 points or fewer.

What does the moneyline mean in NBA betting?

A moneyline bet is a straight-up wager on which team wins — no spread involved. Odds use American format: a favorite is listed with a minus sign (e.g., -180), meaning a wager of $180 would win $100. An underdog carries a plus sign (e.g., +155), meaning a $100 bet would return $155 profit.

What is an over/under (total) bet in the NBA?

FanDuel will set a projected combined score for both teams. You bet whether the actual total points will go Over or Under that number. For example, if the total is 224.5, an Over bet wins if both teams combine for 225 or more points.

What are NBA player props?

Player prop bets focus on individual statistical performances rather than game outcomes. Common NBA props include points scored, rebounds, assists, three-pointers made, steals, and combined stat lines (e.g., Points + Rebounds + Assists). You bet whether the player goes Over or Under the sportsbook's posted line.
