NFL Rookie Receiving Yards Betting: Dalton Kincaid Is Ready for Battle

With the 25th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected Dalton Kincaid out of the University of Utah.

Kincaid is the newest member of Bills Mafia, and on paper, the 6-foot-4 tight end seems like he will be a schematic and cultural fit in Western New York.

Similar to George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers, Kincaid is a player that can excel when catching passes or burying opposing defenders in the run game. The former Utah Ute has a strong frame with massive 10.25-inch hands -- and he loves to use them.

Lucky for Kincaid, Josh Allen will be his first quarterback upon entering the NFL. Of course, Kincaid will join an offensive unit in Buffalo that boasts a myriad of playmakers.

Looking at the NFL rookie odds markets on FanDuel Sportsbook, Kincaid sits at +1800 to produce the most regular season rookie receiving yards in 2023-24, which is tied for sixth-best odds in the market with Rashee Rice of the Kansas City Chiefs. Jordan Addison of the Minnesota Vikings is the overall market favorite (+230).

Built For Buffalo

As previously noted, Kincaid (which is a Scottish name for "battle leader") is physically primed to thrive in the NFL. At 6-foot-4 and more than 240 pounds, Kincaid will be a matchup nightmare for NFL defensive backs.

Of course, Kincaid has more than just a big body. Over his final two seasons at Utah (both of which ended by winning Pac-12 championships), Kincaid totaled 106 receptions for 1,400 yards, and 16 touchdowns. His standout game of college came in the 2022 regular season meeting with Southern Cal. Kincaid went on to bleach the Trojans for 16 catches, 234 yards, and a score that day.

Kincaid has the necessary speed, agility, and hands to continue making plays in the passing game. In college, he showed proficiency when catching jump balls -- both in the end zone and down the sideline.

A Favorable Spot

Being that Buffalo was ranked second in the NFL for both points scored (28.4 points per game) and yardage in 2022, Kincaid immediately arrives at one of the best offenses in football. Allen is the high-ceiling leader of the unit. Genuinely, the rocket-armed quarterback can make any throw on the field.

Without making this piece too much about Allen, a signal-caller like him can do wonders for a young pass catcher. Kincaid will need to learn that -- with Allen -- the play is not over until the whistle blows. If Kincaid can find soft spots in coverage, Allen will surely find him with the football. Keep in mind, Allen had the second-most completions of 40 or more yards in 2022 (12).

When Allen chooses to extend progressions with his legs in 2023, opposing defenses will have plenty to keep track of besides Kincaid. Despite offseason grumblings, All-Pro receiver Stefon Diggs is still the primary target in this offense; he showcases some of the sharpest route running in the game. Over his three seasons as a member of Bills Mafia, Diggs has never produced less than 1,200 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns catches in a season.

After Diggs, Buffalo also has talented pass catchers in Gabriel Davis and Dawson Knox. Davis has been a perpetual touchdown machine since entering the NFL, scoring 26 total times over his career (including postseason). Knox is quite strikingly similar to Kincaid but with a little more beef. Still, Kincaid seems like he may have higher-end athletic abilities compared to Knox.

All this is to highlight that Kincaid will be left with his share of spots to thrive in. With the current personnel, Buffalo's opponents will likely treat Kincaid as a third or fourth option in the passing game. This is something he and Allen should be licking their chops at -- along with a couple baskets of Anchor Bar's buffalo wings, of course.

Dalton Kincaid 2023 Outlook

To lead all NFL rookies in receiving yards on the year is no small feat. Every winner of this market in the five most recent seasons has transitioned into certified stars: Garrett Wilson (2022), Ja'Marr Chase (2021), Justin Jefferson (2020), A.J. Brown (2019) and Calvin Ridley (2018).

You'll notice that those were all wide receivers on the aforementioned winner's list. The last occurrence of a tight end leading all rookies in receiving yards was in 2002 when Jeremy Shockey did it as a member of the New York Giants. He had 894 yards.

At +1800, Kincaid has the sixth-shortest odds to pace rookies in receiving yardage over the 2023 season. There is not another tight end on the current list until Sam LaPorta (Detroit Lions) at +2500.

If you were looking to take it a step further, Kincaid shows +4500 odds (eighth-best) in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds market at FanDuel Sportsbook.
