Fantasy football is all about making the right calls before the games begin, and sometimes that means going against the grain.

Each week, there are players poised to outperform expectations, surprise us with their production, or fall short of what fantasy managers are expecting. While these predictions are certainly bold, they’re not pulled out of thin air. Matchups, usage, game environment and recent trends can all point toward an outcome that the consensus may be overlooking.

With that in mind, here are three bold fantasy football predictions to keep an eye on this week.

NFL Bold Predictions: Week 1

Jahmyr Gibbs Does Not Score a Touchdown

Why not start the year with a bold prediction that could make me look really dumb?

Jahmyr Gibbs is a laughable -330 to score a touchdown this week against the New Orleans Saints. He’s awesome. The Detroit Lions‘ offense is awesome. They’re indoors, and Detroit is listed at -115 odds to go over 28.5 points. So, yeah, the table is set for Gibbs, which is why his TD odds are what they are.

But the Saints’ run D isn’t that bad. A year ago, they permitted only 11 rushing scores to RBs.

Also, touchdowns can be super random sometimes. The Lions could score 30-plus points and all the TDs come via the air or maybe Sione Vaki — Gibbs’ backup — pilfers one.

Gibbs will probably touch paint on Sunday, but I’m staying away from his -330 TD odds.

Tetairoa McMillan Notches 100+ Receiving Yards

The Carolina Panthers haven’t been involved in many shootouts in recent years, but a high over/under (47.5) and close spread (3.0) point to some shootout potential in this week’s matchup with the Chicago Bears.

Most of the reason for the high total is due to a Chicago team that could be pretty dang good on offense while not being all that good on D. We could see the Bears play in a lot of shootouts this campaign, and this clash with Carolina is a fun one to stack for DFS.

Carolina’s passing attack should funnel through Year 2 wideout Tetairoa McMillan, who posted 1,014 receiving yards on 70 catches (122 targets) as a rookie. The Bears are a quality matchup for him as Chicago gave up the seventh-most receiving yards per game to WRs in 2025 (157.4).

McMillan had two 100-yard days a year ago, and I think he’ll start 2026 with a bang.

Jayden Reed Totals 70+ Receiving Yards

Jayden Reed is one of my guys this year and was my favorite fantasy football sleeper. A date with the Minnesota Vikings gives him a chance to hit for a couple big plays.

Minnesota is a good defense, one that loves to blitz. Their 44.3% blitz rate last year led the NFL by a mile as no other team owned a blitz rate above 33.4%. The blitz-heavy strategy clearly works for the Vikes as they allowed the sixth-lowest net yards per pass attempt. It does, however, leave them susceptible to the occasional big passing play.

Enter Reed, who has averaged 13.5 yards per grab for his career, showing he is brimming with big-play prowess. He can be lethal after the catch, and I think his injury issues have masked how good he really is.

Reed was someone I targeted aggressively in fantasy drafts, and I’m also buying into him in the prop market early this year as I think he will offer some value the first few weeks.
