Pitcher Breakdown

Paul Skenes ($11,500) is deservedly the highest-salaried pitching option as he's proven to be matchup-proof in his rookie campaign with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Skenes has scored 46-plus FanDuel points in seven straight starts, and the Houston Astros have the 14th-worst wOBA (.313), 13th-worst wRC+ (103), and 7th-worst ISO (.146) over the last 30 days when facing right-handed pitching.

Logan Gilbert ($10,900) and Nathan Eovaldi ($10,400) are the other two pitchers with a salary above $10,000 on Monday's main slate. Gilbert draws a tough matchup against the Boston Red Sox despite posting 45-plus FanDuel points in three consecutive starts while Eovaldi has 40-plus FanDuel points -- and a quality start -- in four of his last five outings ahead of a matchup versus the St. Louis Cardinals.

Nick Pivetta ($9,400) appears to be the best sub-$10,000 pitcher as he'll take the mound against the strikeout-prone Seattle Mariners. Over the last 30 days, Seattle has the fifth-worst wOBA (.293), seventh-worst wRC+ (93), eighth-worst ISO (.151), and highest strikeout rate (29.6%) versus right-handed pitching.

Others to Consider

  • Colin Rea ($8,900 vs. ATL) - Has been solid with 38-plus FanDuel points in six of his last eight contests, and the Atlanta Braves have the third-highest strikeout rate (26.5%) against right-handed pitchers in the last 30 days. At the same time, Rea is ranked in the 15th percentile in xERA (4.88), 8th percentile in xBA (.279), and only 19th percentile in strikeout rate (18.2%), so he carries a ton of risk.
  • Alec Marsh ($8,200 at CWS) - Only worth considering due to facing a Chicago White Sox team that has lost 14 games in a row. Chicago is logging the worst wOBA (.260), worst wRC+ (65), third-worst ISO (.129), and second-highest strikeout rate (26.9%) over the last 30 days versus right-handed pitching while allowing the opposing starting pitcher to record a win in 8 of their last 10 contests.

Stacks to Target

  • Kansas City Royals (4.94 implied total) -- Chris Flexen has given up a combined 10 earned runs across his last two starts -- which includes an outing where he surrendered seven earned runs against Kansas City. Besides Flexen's woes on the mound, the White Sox's bullpen is registering the sixth-worst SIERA (4.13), second-worst WHIP (1.48), and fourth-worst HR/9 (1.15).
  • Arizona Diamondbacks (4.94) -- Have the eighth-best wOBA (.351) and eighth-best wRC+ (128) versus lefties in the last 30 days. Mitchell Parker, who has permitted five-plus earned runs in three of his last four starts, will take on the Diamondbacks with his 27th percentile barrel rate (8.9%).
  • Washington Nationals (4.06) -- Stacking Monday's Diamondbacks-Nationals showdown is enticing with Jordan Montgomery sitting in the ninth percentile in xERA (5.18), second percentile in xBA (.296), and fifth percentile in strikeout rate (14.9%). Montgomery is permitting a .390 wOBA and 1.75 WHIP to righties, making Lane Thomas and Juan Yepez intriguing outfield options.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates (3.93) -- Could go overlooked against Jake Bloss, who has allowed nine earned runs in only 11.2 innings of action while posting a 5.79 xERA and 15.0% barrel rate in his first three starts. For those trying to fit Skenes into their lineup, the Pirates have six or seven players in their projected lineup with a salary of $2,900 or lower.
