Daily Strikeout Leader: Kutter Crawford Can Carve Up the Marlins

Each day on FanDuel Sportsbook, there is no shortage of MLB odds to sift through, and you're likely familiar with a lot of them. That includes strikeout props, which are entertaining because they add importance to each pitch.

FanDuel Sportsbook has cranked that up a few notches with its daily strikeout leader market. Not only do you need your hurler to rack up Ks -- you need them to get more punchouts than any of the day's other starting pitchers.

Here are today's odds in that market. We'll also reference our MLB projections, which are powered by numberFire.

A Loaded Top Tier

With a full slate of games and some top-level arms going tonight, this is a really fun market, and we have plenty of quality options to choose from.

There are four pitchers with odds of +800 or shorter -- Luis Gil (+650), Grayson Rodriguez (+650), Tarik Skubal (+750) and Dylan Cease (+850). Among those four, Rodriguez interests me the most.

The young Baltimore Orioles' righty is on the road against the Seattle Mariners, the team with the highest strikeout rate versus righties (28.4%). Seattle also sits just 23rd in wOBA in the split (.297), so they're a fantastic matchup.

Rodriguez, a former elite pitching prospect, is following up his superb 2023 campaign with an even better 2024, producing a 25.7% K rate and 13.1% swinging-strike rate en route to a 3.61 SIERA. He's also thrown at least 94 pitches in four straight starts, so he's got the workload to have a big K night.

A Pair of Midrange Picks

In the next odds tier, I'm really into Reynaldo Lopez (+1500) and Kutter Crawford (+1400).

Crawford draws a road matchup with the Miami Marlins. Miami is next to last in wOBA against right-handers (.284) while owning a 22.3% strikeout rate in the split (15th-highest). Crawford is sporting a 3.83 SIERA, 24.8% strikeout rate and 12.0% swinging-strike rate, so he's got the upside to push for double-digit punchouts.

Lopez has very similar numbers to Crawford's -- a 3.78 SIERA, 25.6% K rate and 12.0% swinging-strike rate -- and the matchup is about the same, too, as the San Francisco Giants are 19th in wOBA against righties (.301) with the 17th-highest strikeout rate (21.7%). Our projections are high on Lopez, pegging him for 7.1 strikeouts, the second-most of the day.

One Long Shot

Among the longer shots, Jose Soriano (+2600) has my attention.

The Los Angeles Angels' rookie righty is having a solid season, pitching to a 3.97 SIERA, 20.3% K rate and 10.2% swinging-strike rate. He got up to eight punchouts in a game in late May, and he has a friendly matchup with the Oakland Athletics, a team that is 27th in wOBA against righties (.290) with the 2nd-highest K rate in the split (27.1%).

The only negative is that this is Soriano's first start off the injured list, so the Angels may not push it with him in terms of pitch count.
