NHL Picks Today: NHL Best Bets, Predictions and Props for Tuesday, Nov. 3

Today’s Top NHL Picks at a Glance

  • Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 (-106)
  • Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (+118)
  • Mika Zibanejad 1+ Point (-186)

The NHL has a busy Tuesday slate with several strong teams in favorable spots, giving bettors plenty of options across the board.

Whether it's moneylines, goal props, or who lights the lamp, there are plenty of ways to bet on NHL action all season. It's a long 82-game campaign, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.

Let's dive into the best bets for tonight.

NHL Predictions Today: Player Props, Best Bets

Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 (-106)

Red Wings at Lightning — 7:00 p.m. ET

Puck Line

Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning have started the season 7-3-0 and have been one of the NHL's better offensive teams, averaging 3.69 goals per game. That ranks fifth in the league. The Detroit Red Wings are scoring just 2.79 goals per game, which ranks 23rd.

Tampa Bay has also won six of its first 10 games while Detroit enters at 4-3-3. The Lightning have the clear advantage at both ends of the ice, particularly with Andrei Vasilevskiy expected to give Tampa Bay a major edge in net.

The Lightning are also coming off a 6-2 win over Minnesota and have won four of their last six games.

With Tampa Bay scoring nearly a goal per game more than Detroit this season, I’m drawn to the Lightning on the puck line.

Mika Zibanejad 1+ Point (-186)

Blues at Rangers — 7:00 p.m. ET

1+ Points
Mika Zibanejad

Mika Zibanejad has recorded 12 points through 15 games this season, including three goals and nine assists. He has also registered at least one point in eight of those 15 contests while averaging more than 20 minutes of ice time per game.

Zibanejad should have plenty of opportunity against a St. Louis team that has permitted 3.00 goals per game this season. The Blues are also allowing opponents to convert 23.7% of their power plays while Zibanejad remains a key part of New York's man advantage.

The Rangers have struggled offensively at times lately, but Zibanejad has continued to generate chances, recording five shots in New York's most recent game. With his heavy ice-time workload and role on the top power-play unit, I like him to notch at least one point — even at these odds.

Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (+118)

Hurricanes at Predators — 8:00 p.m. ET

Puck Line

Carolina Hurricanes
Nov 4 1:10am UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

The Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the NHL's best teams through the first month, entering Tuesday at 11-2-2. Carolina is averaging 3.94 goals per game while allowing only 2.19, giving the Hurricanes a massive advantage in both offensive and defensive efficiency.

The Hurricanes have won eight of their last 10 games while Nashville is 4-4-5 and has scored just 2.93 goals per game. Carolina's 3.94 goals per game ranks third in the league, and the Hurricanes have also been excellent at preventing goals.

Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov has been particularly strong, going 9-0-0 with a 1.66 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.

That combination of elite goaltending and a high-powered offense makes Carolina a strong candidate to win by multiple goals.

NHL Betting -- Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Puck Line in NHL Betting?

The puck line is hockey's version of a point spread. The standard puck line is usually set at 1.5 goals, meaning a team listed at -1.5 must win by at least two goals for the bet to cash. A team at +1.5 can either win outright or lose by one goal.

What Does the Moneyline Mean in NHL Betting?

A moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the game. Favorites have negative odds, while underdogs have positive odds. Unlike the puck line, the margin of victory does not matter.

What Are NHL Player Props?

NHL player props allow bettors to wager on an individual player's performance rather than the final result of the game. Common markets include goals, assists, points, shots on goal, and goalie saves.

What Should You Consider When Betting on NHL Games?

Several factors can influence NHL betting decisions, including starting goaltenders, injuries, recent team performance, special-teams play, expected line combinations, and whether a team is playing on consecutive nights. Because goalie confirmations can significantly impact a matchup, it can be useful to check the latest lineup news before placing a bet.
