NHL Betting Picks for Monday 5/20/24: Oilers, Canucks Meet in Game 7

There's one series left in the second round, and it's down to a seventh game.

Whether it's moneylines or total goals, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season. It's a long 82-game campaign, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.

Let's dive into the best bets for tonight.

NHL Best Bets

Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver Canucks

Over 5.5 Goals (-124)

It all comes down to this for the last two Canadian teams remaining. The Edmonton Oilers won 5-1 on Saturday to force a Game 7 tonight.

A big storyline after Game 6 was the fact that the Vancouver Canucks managed only 15 shots on goal. However, by expected goals (xG), they look way better. They actually had 2.9 xG, which was more than the Oilers' 2.72.

This game was the fourth of six to go over the listed 5.5 total. It's not too surprising when we have these two explosive offenses as these teams were in the top six in goals per game in the regular season.

The goaltending for the Oilers has been in question for the last few games. They went to Calvin Pickard for Games 4 and 5 but went back to Stuart Skinner in Game 6. Skinner has not been good in these playoffs, allowing 2.9 goals above expected. He did win on Saturday but looked a bit shaky despite facing just 15 shots.

We saw Arturs Silovs finally struggle in the last game after playing fairly well throughout the playoffs. He allowed five goals on just 2.72 expected and now has saved just 0.6 above expected for the postseason. He had little NHL experience before playing in these playoffs, and he might be getting exposed a bit.

It's unfortunate that Brock Boeser will miss this game, as he was the Canucks' leading scorer. Both sides should still have enough firepower to get us over the total, though.

With good offensive teams facing suspect goaltending, the over is the bet tonight. The model on numberFire agrees with this, giving the over a 57.06% likelihood of coming through.
