Vikings sign wide receiver Justin Jefferson to record-setting contract extension

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Minnesota Vikings and wide receiver Justin Jefferson have agreed on a new 4-year, $140 million contract extension with $110 million in guarantees.

What It Means

Schefter added that Jefferson's new extension includes the highest salary for a non-quarterback player in NFL history. The deal will keep the star receiver in Minnesota for the next four years as they try to develop 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy into a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback.

Jefferson has been one of the, if not the, premier wide receivers in the league since his 2020 rookie season. The LSU Tigers alum has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first four seasons, including an injury-shortened 2023 season in which he averaged an absurd 107.4 receiving yards per game. He was on pace to surpass his league-best 2022 season, where he led the league in receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809) while catching 8 touchdowns.

Jefferson's 5,899 receiving yards are the most-ever by an NFL player in their first four seasons in the league. He's on an historic path and should continue his prolific production in the Vikings' creative offense -- his line on FanDuel Sportsbook's receiving props is set at 1300.5 yards for the upcoming season. Expect to see him be one of fantasy football's earliest picks in your season-long drafts later this summer.
