Bears select Caleb Williams first overall in 2024 NFL Draft
The Chicago Bears selected USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
What It Means
As most have expected for the entire offseason, the Bears held onto the first pick of the draft and made Williams the first pick of the night. The former Trojans signal caller won the Heisman Trophy for his outstanding 2022 season and led his team to the third-highest scoring offense in the NCAA in 2023.
Williams was a prolific passer in his 3 collegiate seasons, racking up 10,082 passing yards with 93 touchdowns to just 14 interceptions. He also added 27 rushing touchdowns while flashing plus athleticism at the position. The consensus top prospect in this year's class understandably has the shortest odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+350).
Williams should be expected to start right away for Chicago. He'll have the privilege of throwing to established pass-catchers like D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen, providing him a better landing spot than we often see for quarterbacks draft first overall.
