NBA Betting: The Best Picks to Lead the League in Three-Pointers

One of the big talking points of the NBA offseason is projecting which players are poised for exceptional or disappointing seasons. Who could break out with career-best seasons? Which players are past their prime and could be on the decline?

With the NBA regular season tipping off on October 24, it's time to call our shots.

FanDuel Sportsbook is offering various NBA player stats odds for the 2023-24 season. This includes anything from the points-per-game leader for the 2023-24 season to player-specific props -- such as if a player will average 24.0 points per game (PPG) or 8.0 assists per game (APG).

Let's dig into the lines for stat leaders in the 2023-24 campaign, focusing today on who could lead the NBA in made three-pointers.

Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors (-150)

The three-point crown belongs in The Bay.

The Golden State Warriors have featured the three-point champion in 8 of the last 11 seasons -- mostly courtesy of Stephen Curry, who has 7 three-point titles since the 2012-13 season. Klay Thompson joined his splash brother by adding his own three-point title last season, leading the NBA with 301 made three-pointers.

Once again, most eyes will be on the Warriors when it comes to the potential three-point leader. According to FanDuel's NBA odds, Curry (-150) and Thompson (+1100) are among the top-three favorites to lead the league in made three-pointers. Of course, Curry, who is widely regarded as the greatest shooter of all time, is the overwhelming favorite.

He likely would have won the title yet again last season if not for injuries. Curry played in only 56 games -- his fourth-lowest mark in his 14-year career. The nine-time All-Star led the Association with 4.9 made three-pointers per game (3PM) last season compared to Thompson at 4.4.

The three-point attempts are always there in Golden State, who ranked top three in three-pointers attempted per game in three consecutive seasons.

Damian Lillard, Milwaukee Bucks (+700)

Alongside Curry and Thompson, Damian Lillard is among the top three favorites to lead the NBA in made three-pointers. Lillard has consistently finished among the top three-point scorers. In fact, he has finished within the top five of most made three-pointers in three of the last four seasons. The 2021-22 season was the only campaign when Lillard failed to reach the the top-five club, which he played in only 29 games.

Lillard's three-point volume last season further supports his chance at the crown. Dame finished third with 4.2 converted three-pointers per game and second with 11.3 attempted three-pointers per game (3PA). Of course, Lillard's usage could be impacted by joining the Milwaukee Bucks. However, the Bucks ranked fourth in three-pointers attempted per game last season.

Milwaukee is not afraid to hoist the three-ball, aiding Lillard's chances for this bet. Lillard has the second-shortest odds to lead the league in made three-pointers (+700).

Curry, Lillard, and Thompson are the clear top choices to snag a three-point crown. Are there any quality under-the-radar choices?

Longshots

Behind the top three, Anfernee Simons (+1500) and LaMelo Ball (+1800) have the fourth and fifth-shortest odds. Ball has shot at least 37.6% from deep in back-to-back seasons and gets plenty of looks with the Charlotte Hornets. He averaged 10.6 3PA (third) and cashed 4.0 three-pointers per game (fourth) last season. Ball also had a career-high usage rate of 30.1%. Ball should be in the running, pending good health (he played in only 36 games last season).

Simons is perhaps the most interesting name on this list. Of course, his young career with the Portland Trail Blazers has been overshadowed by Lillard. Now, Simons has the stage to shine. He averaged a career-high 21.1 points per game (PPG) and 9.1 3PA in the 2022-23 season. Simons has built a reputation for being a knockdown shooter, cashing over 37.0% of his looks in three consecutive seasons. His role should only increase going forward, making Simons an intriguing pick:

Donovan Mitchell (+1800) is tied with Ball for the fifth-shortest odds while Buddy Hield (+2500) has the seventh-shortest line to lead the NBA in made three-pointers. Mitchell ranked fifth with 9.3 3PA in the 2022-22 season, and Hield finished second with 288 total made three-pointers last season.

Jordan Poole (+3500) could be the most enticing dark horse pick. He sits at 35-to-1 to lead the league in made three-pointers, which is the 11th-shortest line. While Poole is certainly a long shot, but his new role with the Washington Wizards could be worth a low stakes bet. Poole learned from the best in Golden State, holding a reserve role behind Curry and Thompson. The former Michigan Wolverines guard has proved he can be a flame thrower, and he got up plenty shots often last season (7.8 3PA).

Washington finished 21st in 3PM and 23rd in 3PA last season, showing the clear need for an increase in three-point attempts. This is where Poole comes in. He could be in store for a big year behind the arc.

We've touched on the most likely names to make the most three-pointers in the upcoming season, but which players are the best bets?

Final Verdict

Of course, Curry is always going to be the most popular pick. He's led the league in three-pointers in 7 of the last 11 seasons. I can't blame you for rolling with the easy pick.

For those who are looking for more intriguing odds, Lillard, Simons, and Poole could be the best bets. Staying healthy will be the big risk for Lillard. He has not played in 60 games since the 2020-21 season. Plus, we can't ignore how Giannis Antetokounmpo will impact his usage rate.

Simons and Poole are young players who are stepping into elevated roles. Among long shots, I believe Poole is the most favorable pick since he will likely get loads of shots up from deep in Washington. Simons has been highly efficient from deep, but will he stay reliable with a potential increase in usage rate? Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson are also capable scorers that could eat into his work.

Curry remains the clear choice to lead the league in made three-pointers, but Lillard, Simons, and Poole are enticing low-stake options that could yield solid rewards.
