MLB Betting: 3 Best Player Prop Bets for Friday 8/9/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our MLB projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Best MLB Player Props Today

Bobby Witt Jr. To Record An RBI (+115)

Bobby Witt Jr. sports a .350 BA, .266 ISO, .616 SLG, 177 wRC+, and 45.2% fly-ball rate versus right-handed pitchers.

At his home Kauffman Field, he's been unreal with a .409 BA, .736 SLG, .328 ISO, and 219 wRC+.

So, with Witt taking on a righty at home tonight, he's the main player I want to target in the batter props market.

He'll get a go at Miles Mikolas of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mikolas' 5.12 ERA is made better with a 4.47 xERA and 4.46 SIERA. However, he does give up a .470 SLG, 35.1% fly-ball rate, and 1.34 home runs per nine innings to right-handed hitters.

Witt has recorded 84 RBIs (fourth-most in MLB) through 114 games. He's in an awesome spot to knock in another tonight, so I'm happy to side with these +115 odds. Given the all-around matchup, I'd consider backing Witt to hit a home run at ultra-friendly +470 odds.

Marcell Ozuna To Record An RBI (-110)

Across the last 30 days of play, Marcell Ozuna has been generating an 18.2% barrel rate, 57.6% hard-hit rate, and .341 ISO.

He's been swinging a hot bat and is playing at Coors Field tonight. Perfect.

Tanner Gordon will be on the mound for the opposing Colorado Rockies. Gordon has let up 15 ER and 6 home runs through 21 1/3 frames this season. His one and only game at Coors was met with 5 ER and 2 home runs.

The righty is in a scary spot against Ozuna, who manages a .299 ISO, 40.3% fly-ball rate, and 42.4% hard-hit rate against northpaws. Gordon, meanwhile, has allowed a whopping 5 home runs in just 9 1/3 innings against righties.

Batting third, Ozuna is typically in a good spot to knock in a run. He's managed 88 ribbies (third-most in MLB) this season. FanDuel Research's MLB projections love Ozuna's outlook for tonight. They expect him to record 1.33 RBIs in this one.

Jose Berrios Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+112)

Jose Berrios has been streaky with the punchouts this season, but tonight's contest against the Oakland Athletics could bring out the best in him.

The A's are striking out at a 25.4% rate against righties. Berrios has faced eight teams that strike out at a 23.8% rate or higher against righties. In this split, he fanned at least 5 batters in 8 out of 8 games and exceeded 5.5 strikeouts in 5 out of 8 contests.

The punchouts have always been there when Berrios takes on strikeout-prone offenses, so I love the +112 odds we are getting on the over.

Plus, Oakland is generating just a .228 BA (27th) and .300 wOBA (22nd) against righties. This could certainly help Berrios pitch longer into the game.

His 18.2% K% is quite lackluster and pales in comparison to 2023's 23.5% K%. But as laid out, he's been dominant against high-strikeout teams such as Oakland. It doesn't hurt that he's throwing this game at home. He lets up a massive 2.44 home runs per nine on the road but just 0.91 home runs per nine at home.
