College football's Week 1 weekend features a matchup between two of the sport's biggest brands as LSU hosts Clemson on Saturday night in Baton Rouge.

The game will also mark the beginning of the Lane Kiffin era at LSU. After going 7-6 last season, LSU made significant changes during the offseason, including adding former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt to lead Kiffin's offense.

Clemson is coming off a 7-6 campaign of its own and will have a new starting quarterback in Christopher Vizzina. The Tigers finished 2025 on a strong note during the regular season, but a trip to Death Valley presents an awfully difficult way to begin a new season.

Using the college football odds at FanDuel Sportsbook as a guide, here are the best bets for this game.

There's plenty of uncertainty when betting a season opener, particularly when one team has undergone as many changes as the LSU Tigers have, but I'm willing to lay the points with the Tigers.

LSU's offense was underwhelming in 2025. The Tigers averaged only 22.8 points and 333.5 total yards per game, including just 104.0 rushing yards per contest.

It's easy to envision Kiffin providing an immediate upgrade.

Leavitt gives him a talented quarterback to build around while LSU also has an intriguing returning weapon in Trey'Dez Green. The 6-foot-7 tight end caught 33 passes for 433 yards and led LSU with seven receiving touchdowns last season.

LSU also made significant additions around Leavitt through the transfer portal, so this offense could look considerably different from the one we saw last season.

The Clemson Tigers‘ defense is the biggest concern with laying double digits. Clemson allowed only 20.5 points and 105.5 rushing yards per game in 2025, and they played particularly well down the stretch.

But I'm much less confident in Clemson's offense keeping this close.

Clemson averaged 27.2 points last season but generated only 124.5 rushing yards per game. Now Vizzina has to make his first start of 2026 in one of college football's toughest road environments.

LSU's defense gave up only 19.8 points per game last season and intercepted 17 passes. If that unit can force Vizzina in obvious passing situations, Clemson could have a hard time consistently sustaining drives.

Add in the advantage LSU should have offensively with Kiffin and Leavitt, and I'll back the home team to win by at least 11.

LSU First Half -6.5 (-110)

Rather than adding another full-game LSU bet, I'm interested in backing the Tigers to start quickly.

The atmosphere should be outstanding for Kiffin's debut, and LSU has had an entire offseason to prepare its new offense for this specific matchup. Say what you will about Kiffin, but the dude usually delivers offense. Add that to LSU’s defensive talent, and the Tigers could be in business.

Clemson, meanwhile, is putting Vizzina into an extremely difficult spot. Death Valley can create communication issues even for experienced quarterbacks, and LSU's defense should be able to attack Clemson aggressively early in the game.

I see Vizzina starting slowly while the more experienced Leavitt hits the ground running in his LSU debut.
