Liverpool vs. Ipswich Prediction, Picks and Projected Lineups

Liverpool vs Ipswich Picks in Summary

  • Alexander Isak Anytime Goalscorer (+100)
  • Both Teams to Score: Yes (-174)

Liverpool will look for its first Premier League win of the season when it visits newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Friday.

The Reds have opened the campaign with consecutive 2-2 draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, while Ipswich beat Sunderland 2-1 before falling 5-2 to Manchester United. That makes this an interesting matchup for bettors, with Liverpool's superior attacking talent running into an Ipswich side that has already demonstrated it can score but has also shown some significant defensive vulnerability.

When looking at the soccer odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, what makes the most sense for today’s clash?

Liverpool vs Ipswich Picks, Prediction

Both Teams to Score: Yes (-178)

This is my favorite overall bet on the match.

Both teams have scored in each of their first two Premier League matches while Liverpool has conceded four goals and Ipswich has conceded six. That gives us an unusually clean early-season trend, with all four matches between these teams producing goals at both ends.

Liverpool's defensive issues under new manager Andoni Iraola are particularly important. The Reds have allowed four goals while adjusting to a new system, and the fullback positions are potential weakness heading into this matchup. Ipswich has enough pace and attacking ability to take advantage, especially at home.

At the other end, Ipswich's defense just surrendered 28 shots and five goals to Manchester United, which should be a major concern against a Liverpool attack averaging 17.5 shots per match.

Alexander Isak Anytime Goalscorer (+100)

Isak is the player prop I like most in this matchup.

The Liverpool striker has already scored once in two Premier League appearances this season, and he is expected to lead the line for the Reds at Portman Road. Liverpool's underlying attacking numbers give him a strong opportunity to add to that total against an Ipswich defense that has conceded six goals in two league matches.

The matchup is particularly attractive because Liverpool should control possession and generate chances in the final third. As we just covered, Ipswich conceded five goals and 28 shots in its latest game against Manchester United, illustrating how difficult it has been for the promoted side to consistently prevent high-quality opportunities.

Isak scored in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in his most recent league appearance. I think he’ll get a few chances today and will cash one of them for a goal.

Liverpool vs Ipswich Projected Lineups

Liverpool Possible Starting XI: Alisson, Frimpong, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Muñoz, Wirtz, Gakpo, Isak

Ipswich Possible Starting XI: Scherpen, O’Shea, Diop, Greaves, Davis, Núñez, Lukić, Fatawu, Enciso, Maeda, Emersonn

Soccer Betting FAQ

What is a moneyline bet in soccer?

A moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the match. Because soccer matches can end in a draw, most moneyline markets include three options: the home team, the away team, or a draw.

What does “draw no bet” mean?

Draw no bet removes the draw as a losing outcome. If the match ends tied, your wager is refunded. If your team wins, the bet wins.

What is a soccer total?

A total is a bet on how many combined goals will be scored in a match. For example, an Over 2.5 Goals bet wins if at least three goals are scored.

What does “both teams to score” mean?

Both Teams to Score, often abbreviated BTTS, is a wager on whether each team will score at least one goal during the match.
