Fantasy Football: 3 Quarterback Streaming Options for Week 1

Streaming quarterbacks remains an integral part of fantasy football for those who were willing to wait on the position in favor of loading up their lineups in drafts.

It's not always the preferred option as putting guys like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson in your lineup and forgetting it is always nice, but you can get some great value on the waiver wire each week to start at the position, keeping you competitive on a week-to-week basis. Whether it's 10-team or 12-team leagues, there's going to be options out there to choose from.

When it comes to streaming a quarterback, there are multiple factors in play with none being more important than the defense they're opposing. From there, you can look at the situation they're in, what they've been doing as of late, and more. All of this matters -- especially when you're trying to find points at the most important position in football.

If you're looking for those options to play in Week 1, then we have you covered. Here are three quarterbacks that are available on multiple platforms that should be of consideration to kick off the season.

Quarterback Streamers for Week 1

Derek Carr, Saints

Week 1 Opponent: Titans

No team allowed more passing yards than the Tennessee Titans did in 2022 (4,671), and only the Kansas City Chiefs allowed more touchdowns through the air. That's great news for new New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr, making him an intriguing play for Week 1.

Carr was serviceable last season despite the up-and-down nature of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. He finished with 16 or more fantasy points in 10 of his 15 games last year. That doesn't jump off the page but when you're looking for a streamer, those are numbers you'll take.

He's in a better situation this year -- even better than having Davante Adams at his disposal. The work begins with his receiving duo of Chris Olave and Michael Thomas, so this not only should be a good week to stream Carr but can put him on the map for a starter remainder of the year in the right situations.

They'll be in the Caesars Superdome on Sunday, taking all other factors out and allowing Carr to deliver in his Saints debut.

numberFire's model has Carr projected for 15.17 points this weekend.

Jordan Love, Packers

Week 1 Opponent: Bears

The Jordan Love experience begins on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Starting him is riding the unknown. The matchup, however, is enticing and sets Love up as a streamer.

While it's difficult to take from last year's numbers, the Bears struggled. Chicago allowed 6,390 yards total, which ranked as the fourth-most in football in 2022. They were in the middle of the league in terms of passing defense.

Love has the weapons at his disposal to put on a show in Week 1. The connection with Christian Watson was showcased a few times during the preseason as was the work with Romeo Doubs. Add in the running backs that have been a major part of the Green Bay Packers over the last few years, and you know that this offense can be a force. It all comes down to Love.

There's little to go off of when it comes to streaming Love outside of his sporadic play since he was drafted. If Love is able to show what made him a first-round pick in 2020, then he should be a popular pick as a streaming option from here on out.

Per numberFire, Love is projected for 15.32 points in Week 1 of the season.

Sam Howell, Commanders

Week 1 Opponent: Cardinals

The sample size of Sam Howell isn't large, but from what we've seen, there's potential there to be a fantasy starter -- especially in matchups like the one he has in Week 1.

The Arizona Cardinals surely look like they're going to be one of the league's worst teams as they have moved on from former first-round pick Isaiah Simmons, don't have Kyler Murray for who knows how long, and didn't really make any improvements in the offseason to give you much hope around this team.

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders have shown full confidence in Howell, who balled in the last game of 2022 to show he's worthy of a shot as their top guy. Howell finished his lone start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18 of last season with 169 passing yards, 1 passing TD, 1 INT, 35 rushing yards, and 1 rushing TD. That was good enough for 18.3 fantasy points. Pretty good!

He's not going to give you a rushing touchdown every week, but he's got the athleticism to give you rushing yards, which are so crucial for quarterbacks in fantasy. Howell also has the weapons around him as he showed in the preseason, hitting Jahan Dotson five different times in his final go before the season.

There's a lot to like about Howell in the early going, and with a matchup that should allow him to almost ease into the role, he could be the best streaming option of the pack when it's all said and done.

Howell is projected for 14.69 FanDuel points, per numberFire's model.
