College Basketball Betting Picks for Friday 3/1/24

The college basketball season always provides a flurry of twists and turns that few saw coming -- especially when March Madness comes around. This can make college basketball one of the most challenging sports to bet on.

Fortunately, we have plenty of tools available that can aid our chances of taking the most favorable college basketball bets. Bart Torvik and KenPom are excellent sources that give insights into team-level efficiency, and Sports Reference provides a wide range of useful team stats, as well.

Let's check out FanDuel Sportsbook's college basketball odds and select some of the best bets of the day by utilizing the mentioned tools.

College Basketball Best Bets

Old Dominion at Georgia Southern

Over 151.5 (-110)

Defense is going to be optional when the Old Dominion Monarchs travel to take on the Georgia Southern Eagles on Friday. While Georgia Southern is giving up the 17th-most points per game (79.5) in college basketball, Old Dominion is allowing 76.0 points per game on the defensive end.

Even though the Monarchs are 4-6 to the over in their last 10 contests, they are 9-3 to the over in their 12 road matchups this season. Meanwhile, the Eagles are 7-3 to the over in their last 10 games, and they have hit the over in six consecutive contests.

Both of these teams have gotten solid contributions from their bench units throughout the year. Georgia Southern is averaging the 50th-most bench points per game (25.37) while Old Dominion is tallying a solid 20.47 bench points per game.

The Eagles also have guard Tyren Moore, who has logged 21-plus points himself in each of the team's last three games. Despite the first meeting between Old Dominion and Georgia Southern this year having 146 total points scored, the over is an enticing bet on Friday.

No. 21 Dayton at Loyola Chicago

Dayton -1.5 (-108)

One of the matchups tonight that has implications for the NCAA Tournament is the Atlantic 10 bout between the Dayton Flyers and Loyola Chicago Ramblers. Seeing that Dayton and Loyola Chicago are both tied in second place in the A10 standings with 12-3 conference records, this game has a lot riding on it.

The Flyers enter as the No. 21 team in the AP Top 25 poll and No. 25 in KenPom's ratings. While Dayton has posted a 7-3 record in its last 10 contests, Loyola Chicago is 8-2 in its last 10 games -- and it recently had a seven-game winning streak snapped.

Besides having a nearly unstoppable force with DaRon Holmes (20.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG), the Flyers are also extremely efficient from deep, converting their threes at the seventh-best clip (39.34%) in the country. Additionally, the Ramblers are allowing teams to shoot 34.5% from beyond the arc and are recording the 24th-most personal fouls per game (19.6), which is notable due to Holmes averaging 8.4 free throw attempts per game.

When it comes to covering the spread, Dayton is 6-3 ATS on the road, and Loyola Chicago is 8-6 ATS at home this season. It should be an ultra-competitive clash between the Flyers and Ramblers, but I'll take Dayton to cover the 1.5-point spread as road favorites.

Fresno State at Nevada

Nevada -14.5 (-110)

The last game we'll take a look at on Friday's slate will be in the MWC in a matchup between the Fresno State Bulldogs and Nevada Wolf Pack. According to Bart Torvik's bracketology, the Wolf Pack are projected for a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a 23-6 record (10-5 conference record).

When Fresno State and Nevada met on January 6th, the Wolf Pack secured a 72-57 victory on the road to cover as 6.0-point favorites. This time around, Nevada will be the home team, and it is 9-5 ATS at home compared to Fresno State being 4-6 ATS on the road.

The Bulldogs are also currently on a four-game losing streak -- which includes two losses of 24-plus points -- while the Wolf Pack have reeled off four straight wins. There have been nine instances this season where Nevada has been favored by 10-plus points, and it has gone 6-3 ATS in those situations.

With the Bulldogs being tied for the 49th-worst rebound margin (-2) and the Wolf Pack owning the 25th-best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.53), Nevada has a massive advantage in this conference contest. Given how each of these teams have performed recently, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Wolf Pack win by 20-plus points at home.
