Champions League Picks Today: UCL Predictions

PSV First-Half Moneyline (-130)

PSV vs. Shakhtar Donetsk, 12:45 p.m. ET

PSV to win the first half catches my eye on Thursday.

PSV has four wins through five matches in domestic league play and has netted 18 goals through those five outings. They’re flying. Their projected lineup gives PSV a dangerous front three of Ivan Perišić, Ricardo Pepi and Ruben van Bommel, while Shakhtar is dealing with injuries to goalkeeper Fesiun and defender Marlon Santos, with Pedrinho also doubtful.

The Dutch side also has plenty of Champions League experience in the attack and should be able to generate sustained pressure at Philips Stadion.

I expect PSV to come out aggressively and head into the break with a lead.

Bayern Munich Over 3.5 Goals (-120)

Bayern Munich vs. Bodo Glimt, 3 p.m. ET

Bayern is a giant favorite on Thursday, but listed at -1250 to win at home over Bodo Glimt, last season’s UCL darlings.

The German giants should be able to overpower Bodo Glimt, and I am backing Bayern to score at least four games.

The projected Bayern lineup is loaded, with Harry Kane up front and Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz behind him. Bayern’s injury situation is also pretty nice, with only Serge Gnabry doubtful. Bodø/Glimt, meanwhile, is expected to have several absences, including Haitam Aleesami, Håkon Evjen, Mikkel Mikkelsen and Magnus Riisnæs.

The biggest concern with this wager is that Bayern could ease off once the match is effectively decided. Still, the talent gap is enormous, and Bayern should create enough chances at home to win by three or more. Plus, we’ve seen Bayern net nine goals over their previous two games in all competitions, so they’ve shown they are willing to keep their foot on the gas.

A moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the match. Because soccer matches can end in a draw, most moneyline markets include three options: the home team, the away team, or a draw.
