3 MLB Prop Bets to Target on Thursday 6/13/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.

MLB Player Props

Pete Alonso to Record an RBI (+130)

Pete Alonso and the New York Mets haven't had an ideal season thus far, but the slugger is in a spot to shine tonight against the Miami Marlins.

The big reason is that the pitching matchup is perfect -- as Roddery Munoz will get the start for Miami, and he's done nothing but struggle in 2024.

Munoz has made four starts this season, pitching to a 4.35 SIERA, 5.95 ERA, and 7.88 FIP. It goes without saying that this is a rough start, and his 7.30 expected ERA (xERA) says that it should be a lot worse. In 19 2/3 innings, he's managed to surrender 8 home runs. That's an average of 3.66 HR/9.

The Mets have the best implied total of the day at 4.86, per numberFire's heat map. You can see why Alonso is the hitter I want tonight -- he's the best power threat in New York.

For all the rough aspects of the Mets' season, Alonso has remained true to his usual output. He's got a .337 wOBA and .227 ISO to go along with 14 home runs and 32 RBIs. The RBIs are low all things considered, but he's the player to lean on to drive in some runs in tonight's tilt.

The 46.2% fly-ball rate that Alonso has should give him a shot of going deep again tonight, as Munoz is allowing hitters to lift the ball with a 48.1% fly-ball rate -- not a surprise with the aforementioned 8 home runs allowed.

Roll with the first baseman to come through tonight.

Shohei Ohtani to Record 2+ Total Bases (-125)

Last night, Shohei Ohtani launched his 17th home run of the year -- marking two straight games of him swatting a homer.

He's hot at the plate once again, so let's take him to Record 2+ Total Bases (-125) in tonight's contest against the Texas Rangers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a solid 4.84 implied total against Texas Rangers starter Michael Lorenzen.

Lorenzen has a 4.87 SIERA, 4.66 xERA, and 4.69 FIP so far this season through 10 starts. With an offense like Los Angeles has, it shouldn't be a problem for them to fill the box score.

That brings us back to Ohtani, who has done everything right at the plate to this point. When you're hitting .311 with a .414 wOBA, it places you at the top of the majors.

Ohtani is top 10 in batting average (6th), ISO (5th), OPS (6th), home runs (6th), doubles (7th), wRC+ (5th), and wOBA (5th).

Everything he's doing gives me confidence in him earning two bases tonight. With 37 extra-base hits on the campaign, it's well in his wheelhouse.

Corbin Carroll to Record 2+ Total Bases (-120)

My final prop bet to consider on the night is Corbin Carroll to Record 2+ Total Bases (-120). It has been an incredibly tough season for Carroll, but he's beginning to turn it around in the month of June.

Despite season numbers that include a .213 average and .276 wOBA, June has been much closer to the Carroll that we saw in 2023.

In June, he's hitting to the tune of a .300 batting average with a .355 wOBA, .791 OPS, and 131 wRC+. Over his last four games, he's managed to put together seven hits as well. The bat is finally getting on track.

It's a good matchup tonight for it to continue, as the Arizona Diamondbacks face the Los Angeles Angels. Los Angeles will be starting Griffin Canning, who may have a long day based on Arizona's 4.78 implied total.

Canning has not been good this season with a 4.65 ERA, 5.14 FIP, 1.42 HR/9, 5.14 FIP, and 1.38 WHIP. He has also watched 11 home runs leave the park against him.

There's not much good to be found when it comes to Canning, which is why Carroll can keep up this small momentum he's finally found this season.
