Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.
Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for tonight's main slate.
Wilmer Flores, 1B/3B, San Francisco Giants ($2,500)
Often when looking for a value hitter, it makes sense to find someone who has a strong platoon advantage. That's certainly the case for Wilmer Flores tonight.
Flores has historically been a good hitter against lefties. In the split, he has a career 115 weighted runs created plus (wRC+) and a .213 isolated slugging percentage (ISO). He's carried that over to this season, with a 108 wRC+ and a .217 ISO. He is likely to bat third for the San Francisco Giants tonight, giving him a premium lineup spot at a low salary.
Flores will face a lefty tonight -- one who has really struggled to get out righties in the big leagues. Matthew Liberatore has allowed a massive .409 weighted on-base average (wOBA) and a .561 slugging percentage to righties in his brief MLB career.
At a low salary and the ability to fill two positions, Flores makes sense as a guy to get into lineups.
Teoscar Hernandez, OF, Seattle Mariners ($2,700)
Another player with the platoon advantage and a good lineup spot, Teoscar Hernandez has not been at his best so far this season. That's kept his salary low, and it makes him a great target tonight.
Hernandez joined the Seattle Mariners via offseason trade, with Seattle hoping to bring some pop to their lineup. Hernandez has historically done that against lefties, as he has a career .292 ISO versus southpaws. He also carries a career .392 wOBA and 137 wRC+ in the split.
The Mariners are going up against Jesus Luzardo, who's a good pitcher but has some flaws. He's been getting hit pretty hard, allowing opposing batters to barrel the ball 11.2% of the time while also surrendering a 43.3% fly-ball rate. He's also allowed a .348 wOBA to right-handed hitters.
This is a nice spot for Hernandez to get his season on track, and he is likely to hit cleanup in this Seattle lineup.
J.T. Realmuto, C, Philadelphia Phillies ($2,800)
J.T. Realmuto had an elite fantasy season for a catcher last year, with a 20-homer, 20-steal campaign. The returns haven't been as fruitful this season, but he is definitely a player we can take a shot on at this salary.
His power numbers haven't been as strong this season, but it should come around as he's hitting fly-balls at a higher percentage than even last season. He's stolen nine bases already this year, so even if he's not hitting homers, he can still pop off for a productive night. Tonight, he'll be a part of a dangerous lineup in a hitter's park.
The Philadelphia Phillies will face the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road. Arizona is sending Tommy Henry to the mound, and he's struggled this season. His Fielding Independent Pitching mark is a whopping 5.76, and he's allowing 44.6% fly-ball rate.
This could be a chance for Realmuto to turn one of those fly balls into a homer. At just $2,800, he should be considered tonight, either as part of a Phillies stack or a one-off option.
