Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for tonight's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Alex Wood, SP, San Francisco Giants ($6,800)

Alex Wood has had an up-and-down career, with some years being really solid and some being below average.

Unfortunately, 2023 falls into the latter category. He has an expected ERA (xERA) of 5.38 and a career-high 5.07 SIERA. He does still get ground balls at a high rate (42.4%) and his 19.5% strikeout rate isn't terrible.

We are really wanting to roster Wood because of his matchup tonight. The San Francisco Giants will face the Oakland Athletics. Oakland's active roster has a 23.8% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching, while also sporting a stunningly-low 75 wRC+.

Wood will be at home in Oracle Park, one of the best parks for limiting home runs. San Francisco is a -235 favorite according to the MLB odds from FanDuel Sportsbook. The A's also have the lowest implied team total (3.51) on this slate, so Wood should pay off this salary fairly easily.

Austin Slater, OF, San Francisco Giants ($2,800)

When you are going up against the worst team in baseball, it tends to make some players nice values. We'll go from the Giants' starting pitcher to their leadoff hitter in Austin Slater.

Slater is having a nice season for himself, with a .352 wOBA and 123 wRC+. When facing a lefty like he is tonight, those numbers go up to a .381 wOBA and a 143 wRC+. He isn't thought of as a power hitter, but against lefties, his .175 ISO is definitely respectable.

The Giants will face rookie Hogan Harris. Harris has a 5.10 expected FIP (xFIP) in 53.0 innings and allows fly balls at a 44.9% rate.

San Francisco is expected to knock Harris and the A's bullpen around in this game, as they have a 4.99 implied team total. That's definitely a total where it makes sense to roster a leadoff hitter.

Andrew Benintendi, OF, Chicago White Sox ($2,800)

Andrew Benintendi signed a big deal in free agency with the Chicago White Sox this past offseason, and while things haven't quite worked out the way he would have wanted, he can be an asset in fantasy lineups tonight.

Benintendi is the leadoff hitter for the Sox and has been able to steal 11 bases this season. He's been an above-average hitter against right-handed pitching this season, with a .319 wOBA and a 102 wRC+.

The matchup isn't the best tonight for the White Sox against Marcus Stroman. They still have a decent team total of 4.48 runs in this game. Stroman does a good job of limiting home runs, but that's not Benintendi's game anyway. His game is to get on base, which he has done at a .355 clip against righties.

If we are digging for value on this five-game slate that could become four games depending on the weather, Benintendi is a nice filler option in lineups tonight.
