3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Tuesday 9/12/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Sean Manaea, P, San Francisco Giants ($6,600)

Sean Manaea isn't having the best season, which is the reason why his salary is all the way down at $6,600. He does have some things pointing towards success tonight, though.

Manaea's 5.00 ERA doesn't look great, but his 4.56 expected ERA (xERA) suggests he's been unlucky. A 27.2% strikeout rate and 3.81 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) are very solid and rarely found when looking for a pitcher with this low of a salary.

The San Francisco Giants will face the Cleveland Guardians at home tonight. The Guardians have just a 98 wRC+ against left-handed pitching in their active lineup. That ranks 19th in the big leagues.

Cleveland's implied team total is 3.82 runs tonight, too, one of the lower totals on the slate. Playing pitchers at a stadium like Oracle Park always feels safe. Manaea ranks first in numberFire's value metric for pitchers tonight and is a great option in all formats.

D.J. Stewart, OF, New York Mets ($2,600)

It's been a career year for D.J. Stewart that probably didn't seem possible after getting designated for assignment last season. Now, he's back in the Majors and making the most of his opportunity.

Stewart has been raking since getting called up to the New York Mets with a .405 wOBA and .367 ISO. Against right-handed pitching, those numbers improve to a .411 wOBA and .380 ISO.

He'll face a righty tonight in Ryne Nelson who has some obvious flaws. He can't strike anyone out -- with just a 15.3% strikeout rate and an 8.3% swinging-strike rate. He's also allowed opponents to barrel the ball 11.7% of the time.

Stewart's salary is affordable, and all the signs point to him having a great chance of hitting a home run tonight.

Edouard Julien, 2B, Minnesota Twins ($2,800)

Edouard Julien has been a revelation for the Minnesota Twins as a rookie, and he has a lot going in his favor to keep up his solid season.

Julien has been particularly good against righties. He's sporting a 149 wRC+ and a .386 wOBA with the platoon advantage. He tends to bat leadoff for the Twins, which is obviously a good thing in fantasy.

The Twins will face Zack Littell of the Tampa Bay Rays in this game. Littell has the same problem as Nelson, striking out just 18.8% of batters and getting swinging strikes just 9.4% of the time.

As a leadoff hitter, Julien can be used as a one-off piece or as part of a Twins stack that comes in at a low total salary.
