3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Monday 8/21/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Allan Winans, P, Atlanta Braves ($6,500)

A 28-year-old rookie isn't always the best sign for a player's outlook, but Allan Winans pitched well in Triple-A and now is getting his chance with the Atlanta Braves.

Winans has made just two starts in MLB so far. We can't draw too many conclusions over just 11.1 innings, but a 30.4% strikeout rate and a 12.5% swinging-strike rate are both solid. He's also gotten a 57.4% ground-ball rate in the big leagues.

The Braves will face the New York Mets at home tonight. The Mets aren't necessarily the scariest team for a right-handed pitcher to face, ranking 13th in wOBA against righties.

Atlanta is the biggest favorite on tonight's slate, according to the MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. Winans is the best value at pitcher tonight in numberFire's model, and it's worth taking a shot on him for just $6,500.

Tommy Pham, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks ($2,900)

Tommy Pham has switched teams so often in the past few seasons that he's become a great answer for the Immaculate Grid.

He also continues to be a great hitter with the platoon advantage. This season, Pham has a .359 wOBA and a 131 wRC+ when facing lefties. He's also shown a lot of power, with a .274 ISO. Pham usually hits third in a good Arizona Diamondbacks lineup, too.

Pham will face Jordan Montgomery, now of the Texas Rangers. Montgomery has surrendered 13 of his total 14 home runs to righties this season. He also has a .312 wOBA and a .172 ISO against them.

As the best hitter value by numberFire's projections, Pham will fit into lineups in all formats tonight.

Cal Raleigh, C, Seattle Mariners ($2,900)

Cal Raleigh has followed up his breakout season with another solid year. His 22 homers are the most for any catcher this season.

Raleigh is a switch-hitting catcher who's better from the left side of the plate. In fact, 20 of those 22 home runs have come as a lefty, and his ISO shoots up to .244. He also has a .331 wOBA when facing righties.

The Seattle Mariners are on the road tonight, facing the Chicago White Sox. Touki Toussaint will be the starting pitcher for Chicago, and he's sporting an expected ERA (xERA) of 4.95 and a SIERA of 5.32. He's also allowed .358 wOBA to lefties in his career.

Seattle has a healthy implied team total of 4.8 runs tonight, and Raleigh batting in the middle of this lineup should provide a lot of opportunities for him to drive in some runs.
