3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target for Wednesday 6/21/23
In daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel, finding and utilizing productive high-salary players is integral to building a successful lineup.
In terms of hitters, we're looking for individuals with big numbers, favorable matchups, and fellow players around them who are likely to produce, as well, increasing our chances for runs and RBI. For pitchers, we want high strikeout totals. Still, the ability to labor deep into a game while earning a win is also valuable.
With high-salary picks playing such a crucial role in your lineup, you can't afford to miss on these guys, so let's take a look at a few top high-salary plays for today's main slate on FanDuel.
Luis Castillo, SP, Seattle Mariners ($10,600)
Luis Castillo has an ideal matchup today against the banged-up, slumping New York Yankees.
The Seattle Mariners' ace has been brilliant this season and is the top stud to get into your lineups for Wednesday's main slate. Castillo is in the midst of one of his best seasons yet, and that is evidenced by how much he's missing bats. He currently has the highest called plus swinging strike rate (CSW%) of his career at 30.5%. That has led to Castillo's strikeout rate being 29.6%, his highest since the shortened 2020 campaign.
With no Aaron Judge in the lineup due to his toe injury, the Yankees are struggling greatly. Since his last game on June 3rd, New York is dead last in the league with a .269 weighted on-base average (wOBA) while striking out 23.3% of the time. The Yanks' limited upside without the reigning AL MVP gives Castillo a chance to dominate.
As of early Thursday (there are a few missing implied totals early in the day), the Yankees sport a slate-worst implied total of 3.33.
numberFire's model projects Castillo to finish the day with 36.8 FanDuel points, tops among all pitchers.
Corey Seager, SS, Texas Rangers ($4,500)
It's a good day to stack the Texas Rangers, and it should all start with getting Corey Seager into your lineups.
The matchup against the Chicago White Sox is one to take advantage of, and based on how Seager's season has gone, you don't want to pass up on him. While he doesn't qualify with the rest of the league due to his injuries earlier this season, Seager's .450 wOBA would be the highest in the majors. But that's not all, as Seager has an insane hard-hit rate of 52.5% and is driving the ball as well as anyone in the game.
Michael Kopech is a pitcher to take advantage of, which is why stacking your lineups with fellow Rangers studs Marcus Semien (numberFire's second-highest projected hitter) or Josh Jung would surely be worth it. Kopech has a blah 4.34 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and has been prone to blowup outings in his career.
Texas' 4.79 implied total is the slate's highest.
According to numberFire's model, Seager has the highest projection among all hitters today at 14.9 FanDuel points.
Fernando Tatis Jr., OF/SS, San Diego Padres ($4,300)
The return of Fernando Tatis Jr. has gone as expected, with the San Diego Padres' outfielder raking at the plate.
Tatis already has 15 home runs this season, and his strikeout rate is the best of his career at 18.8%. His .392 wOBA ranks ninth in the majors. June has been kind to him as his wOBA skyrockets to a stunning .538 this month, and he has a hard-hit rate of 50.0% in June.
The red-hot San Francisco Giants will send out rookie Ryan Walker as an opener for what is expected to be a bullpen game for San Fran. Walker has impressed in his first 16.1 innings pitched, recording a 3.12 SIERA and limiting walks at a 4.4% rate. It is worth noting, however, that Walker isn't missing many bats as his swinging-strike rate is only 8.5%.
Tatis should be able to drive the ball and shine in DFS lineups. One of the game's elite power/speed threats, Tatis projects for 13.7 FanDuel points, per numberFire's model
