Commanders vs 49ers NFL Props, Picks for MNF
Commanders +7.5 (-112)
Spread
The Washington Commanders haven't gotten the results they wanted early this season, but they are averaging 23.0 points per game. Jayden Daniels also looked much more like himself in last week's 27-27 tie with the New York Giants, accounting for 302 total yards and two rushing touchdowns.
His rushing ability is especially important against a San Francisco 49ers defense that will be without Dre Greenlaw. Daniels gives the Commanders a path to extend drives and manufacture points even when the passing game isn't operating efficiently.
San Francisco has won all five of its games, but Washington's dual-threat quarterback and the cushion of more than a touchdown make the Commanders the side I'd rather back.
Jayden Daniels Over 38.5 Rushing Yards (-113)
Jayden Daniels - Rushing Yds
Daniels' rushing production has been one of the clearest bright spots for Washington this season.
Through three appearances, Daniels has amassed 203 rushing yards on 21 attempts, good for 67.7 rushing yards per game and 9.7 yards per carry. He has gone for 31, 69 and 103 rushing yards in those contests, topping tonight's 38.5-yard number twice in three games.
The most encouraging performance came last week. Daniels carried the ball nine times for 103 yards against New York, producing his first 100-yard rushing game of the campaign.
Washington is a sizable road underdog, which could lead to a lot of drop backs for Daniels. Scrambles against pressure and designed runs both give him paths to volume, and his legs could be Washington's best method of keeping this game close. Also, we know he’s capable of ripping off chunk gains on the ground.
At 38.5 yards, I like the over.
Brock Purdy Under 2.5 Passing Touchdowns (-162)
Brock Purdy - Passing TDs
Brock Purdy has been excellent through five starts, tossing 13 touchdown passes, but asking him to get to three scores through the air is still a fairly demanding bar. Purdy has thrown three-plus touchdowns in only two of his five games while finishing with exactly two passing scores in each of his last two outings.
The biggest reason to like the under is that San Francisco doesn't need Purdy to account for every touchdown near the goal line. Christian McCaffrey has already scored five rushing touchdowns this season, including at least one in each of his last four games. He also punched in two scores on the ground against the Miami Dolphins, showing how the 49ers can lean on him once they get into scoring range.
That matters against a Washington defense that has struggled badly in the red zone. Commanders’ opponents have scored touchdowns on 15 of 18 red-zone trips this season, an 83.3% conversion rate. San Francisco should have opportunities to finish drives, but some of those touchdowns can come via McCaffrey and the ground game rather than Purdy's arm.
