MLB Prop Bets to Target

Corey Seager To Record 2+ Bases (-115)

Game 1 of the World Series kicks off tonight with the Arizona Diamondbacks visiting the Texas Rangers.

Zac Gallen will take the mound for the D'Backs and look to rebound off his poor playoff performance thus far, which includes a stat line of 22.1 innings pitched, 13 earned runs, and six home runs.

With the Fall Classic may come a new Gallen, but the Texas lineup has some unforgiving bats that he will be hard-pressed to get past.

Tonight, I'm siding with Corey Seager to do some damage against Gallen. Seager's not only been excellent in the playoffs (.333 batting average, five doubles, six home runs), but the platoon advantage he holds over Gallen is no small matter.

This season, Gallen allowed a .302 wOBA, .404 SLG, and 1.26 HR/9 to lefties. Since the All-Star break, those numbers have increased to a .336 wOBA, .471 SLG, 1.8 HR/9. And since the All-Star break on the road, those numbers spiked even more -- .357 wOBA, .500 SLG, 2.1 HR/9.

Gallen was pretty dominant during the regular-season and was even in the NL Cy Young Award conversation for some time, so it isn't easy to find trends of struggle. The fact that he has been weak on the road against lefties is great news for Seager, and Seager's splits against right-handed pitchers is even better news.

Seager put up a .333 batting average, .667 SLG, 183 wRC+, and 49.8% hard-hit rate against righties this season. He's been one of the best hitters in the league in this split, ranking third in batting average against righties and second in slugging percentage. I'm in on him grabbing a couple bases tonight.

Nathan Eovaldi Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+118)

Nathan Eovaldi is on the bump for Texas tonight -- music to Ranger's fans' ears.

After putting up terrible numbers in the second half of the regular season (7.18 ERA over seven starts), Eovaldi is looking more and more like the ace who was selected as an All-Star this year.

He's been a win-monster for Texas, going 4-0 in these playoffs and posting a stat line of 26 innings pitched, seven earned runs, and 28 strikeouts.

His postseason history is storied -- he's punched out 69 batters in as many innings, posted a 2.87 ERA, and just ran up on the fifth anniversary of coming in as extra-innings relief in the 2018 World Series and delivering an unprecedented six-inning performance through the 18th inning.

The playoff-hype seems legit for Eovaldi, and I think he's capable of hitting the over on his strikeout prop tonight.

He's struck out seven-plus batters in three out of four games this postseason, so the trend is there.

Eovaldi had a much higher regular-season strikeout propensity against righties than lefties -- he clocked out with a 25.6% strikeout rate and 9.47 K/9 ratio against right-handed bats this season.

Luckily for him, Arizona will likely come in with six righties in their lineup -- Corbin Carroll is the Diamondbacks' lone true lefty bat, while Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo are switch hitters who have much better splits against lefties. In short, this looks like a pretty decent matchup for Eovaldi.

Plus, Arizona has been striking out quite a bit during the playoffs, struggling with a 25.7% strikeout rate through 452 plate appearances (this would have been the third-highest team K rate in the regular season).

Six strikeouts is a fairly high bar to hit in a World Series game, but if Eovaldi keeps throwing like he has been, length shouldn't be an issue for this start. With this prop at plus odds, I feel good about siding with the over tonight.
