Group F Team-by-Team Outlook
France
France is expected to be the top dog in Group F and one of the true contenders to win the World Cup.
As the fifth-ranked team in the world -- per FIFA rankings -- and holding -170 odds to win the group, France has had an interesting road to the tournament. They kicked off the year by getting rid of long-time manager Corinne Diacre in March after multiple players on the team openly revealed they wouldn't play in the World Cup if she were still running the team.
This has led to some history being made as Hervé Renard was named the new football manager of France -- the same Renard who coached Saudi Arabia in the 2022 Men's World Cup and helped them pull off a historic upset win over eventual winners Argentina. Perhaps the underdog style of play that Renard is used to can help France stand out, especially later in the tournament.
In terms of being led on the pitch, captain Wendie Renard will aim to follow her 2019 World Cup with another super performance. She actually led France in goals (four) in that tournament, one of which came from the penalty spot.
Throughout the World Cup qualifiers, 24-year-old Marie-Antoinette Katoto was exceptional, notching 10 goals in eight games. Sadly for the French, Katoto is dealing with a partial ACL injury and will ultimately miss the tournament. Eugénie Le Sommer will be returning to the team with Diacre gone, helping fill the void that Katoto's injury will leave.
France has the sixth-best odds to win the whole thing, sitting at +1300, while their odds of advancing out of Group F are at an overwhelming -3500.
Brazil
Finalists back in 2007, Brazil is looking to get back there in the last World Cup run of their living legend.
Marta revealed that the 2023 Women's World Cup would be her final go. The forward has left her mark on the game of soccer, and it'd be a special way for her to go out if they were able to reach the final.
For her career, Marta has 17 goals in her 20 World Cup games -- the most goals by any player in the history of the World Cup. At 37 years old, she's going to do everything in her power to help push her country. Brazil owns the ninth-best odds to win the tournament at +3200.
Maybe one of the most exciting players heading into the tournament will be Brazil's latest phenom, Kerolin. The 23-year-old attacker has been a star this season in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), scoring eight goals -- which has her tied for second in the league. A good tournament for Kerolin could put her name on the map for soccer fans far and wide.
France is a force that Brazil will have to contend with in Group F, but Brazil ranks eighth in the world for a reason. France and Brazil went head-to-head in the Round of 16 in 2019, with France edging out Brazil, 2-1. This year's Matchday 2 clash will be one of the best matchups of the group stage.
Brazil holds +160 odds to win the group and -1450 to qualify for the knockout stage.
Jamaica
Jamaica is going to do everything it can to make some noise as they look up at France and Brazil.
The Jamaican National Team is going to be led by Manchester City star Khadija "Bunny" Shaw. Through her 22 matches in the Women's Super League, she's been simply outstanding and shows she's the type of player who can make a difference for Jamaica if they want to shake things up in this year's World Cup. She was able to notch 20 goals and 7 assists in those 22 appearances, trailing only England's Rachel Daly in the battle for the league's Golden Boot.
Jamaica is not going to be considered a contender as they're the 43rd-ranked team in the world, but they are capable of putting up a fight. Not having to face France and Brazil back-to-back but instead taking on Panama on Matchday 2 could give Jamaica confidence for the final matchup with Brazil, assuming they take care of Panama.
However, across all groups, out of all the teams with the third-best odds to advance out of their group, Jamaica is the biggest underdog at +600.
Panama
Panama comes into the World Cup as one of the lowest-ranked teams (52nd) but is looking to make some history.
This will be Panama's debut in the tournament, and a single win this tournament would make them the first CONCACAF team to earn themselves a victory in their debut World Cup since Team USA did it. Panama was the final team to qualify for this year's Women's World Cup after notching wins against Papua New Guinea and Paraguay in two playoffs.
There's no doubt Panama is the longest of long shots as they have +10000 odds to win the group and +43000 odds to lift the trophy -- tied for the longest odds in the whole tournament.
