Women's World Cup DFS Helper: United States vs. Netherlands
The United States women's national team picked up a 3-0 win over Vietnam in their opening match of the 2023 Women's World Cup.
Their second match is set for 9:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday against the Netherlands.
Here's what you need to know from each team's first match to help build your single-game daily fantasy soccer lineups on FanDuel for the Women's World Cup.
United States
The United States' 3-0 win came on the back of 28 total shots (7 on goal) and 4.7 expected goals (xG) while allowing no shots and -- naturally -- 0.0 xG by Vietnam.
The USWNT controlled 65.7% of the possession and completed 79.7% of their passes, top-tier rates compared to the rest of the competition in this World Cup.
They also kept Vietnam from completing more than half of its passes.
Sophia Smith ($16) opened up the scoring at the 14' mark on an assist by Alex Morgan ($14).

Smith scored again (in stoppage time in the first half).
She then assisted at the 77' mark on a goal by Lindsey Horan ($13).

Smith, Horan, and Morgan all had five shot attempts. Morgan also took an unsuccessful penalty.
Julie Ertz ($7) had four shots, and Megan Rapinoe ($10) had three off the bench, coming in for Morgan in the 63rd minute.
Emily Fox ($6) had two shots, as did Savannah DeMelo ($9).
Substitutions were Rose Lavelle ($7) for DeMelo, Rapinoe for Morgan, Alyssa Thompson ($6) for Trinity Rodman ($10), Kelley O'Hara ($5) for Crystal Dunn ($9), and Sofia Huerta ($5) for Fox.
The Netherlands
The Netherlands earned a 1-0 win over Portugal in their opening match, doing so on 12 shots (5 on goal) while allowing just 2 shots (1 on goal).
The xG output was 1.7 to 0.1.
The goalscorer for the Netherlands was defender Stefanie van der Gragt ($10) early in the first half off of a corner.

But shot leaders for the Netherlands were Lineth Beerensteyn ($7; 4 shots), Lieke Marten ($12; 3 shots), and Daniëlle van de Donk ($8; 2 shots).
Substitutions were Damaris Egurrola ($4) for van de Donk, Katja Snoeijs ($4) for Beerensteyn, and Kerstin Casparij ($4) for Victoria Pelova ($6).
USWNT vs. the Netherlands Match Outlook
According to the Women's World Cup odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, the USWNT is -145 to win outright with the Netherlands' moneyline odds at +400 and draw odds at +260.
In the Tie-No-Bet market, the USWNT's odds are -380 to win with the Netherlands' odds at +270.
This should be a much tighter matchup than the US's first match, and this match has -144 odds to stay under 2.5 goals.
With that in mind and with, finding the goal-scorers will be even more crucial if there are only a couple of goals.
Players to Watch
We need to adjust based on starting lineups, which are confirmed an hour before kickoff, but these players had noteworthy performances relative to their actual output in their opening matches.
Alex Morgan ($14)
Morgan accrued 3.46 xG+xA (expected goals plus expected assists -- including penalties) per 90 minutes in her opening match. That's the highest rate of any player in the World Cup thus far. After Sophia Smith made headlines with a two-goal opener, Morgan's salary now looks appealing. My model had her expected FanDuel points for the Vietnam match at 47.5.
Lindsey Horan ($13)
Horan controlled the midfield against Vietnam and made 5 interceptions and a tackle while also completing 46 of 64 passes and taking 5 shot attempts. We'll be tempted by Morgan and Smith -- but don't overlook Horan after such a strong showing.
Megan Rapinoe ($10)
In relief of Morgan, Rapinoe fired off 3 shots in 28 minutes for 0.9 xG and 0.2 xA, which works out to a hefty 3.58 xG+xA per 90 minutes. That's the highest output of any player with at least 20 minutes played thus far.
Jackie Groenen ($9)
Groenen had a team-high 8 tackles in the opener and 2 interceptions for 10 tackles plus interceptions, one of the most important combined stats in single-game soccer.
Lineth Beerensteyn ($7)
Beerensteyn led the Netherlands with 4 shots over 87 minutes in their opener, and those shots led to 0.3 xG. While it was not the most fruitful shot volume, it's noteworthy at the $7 salary.
Sherida Spitse ($7)
Spitse, a defender for the Netherlands, assisted on their lone goal in the opening match and had four crosses and three clearances. She could be key to dispersing USWNT attacks and getting scoring chances for the Netherlands.
Jill Roord ($5)
Roord was active in the opener with seven tackles and a block while playing all 90 minutes and earning a shot attempt.
