WNBA 3-Point Contest Best Bets

Kayla McBride Winner (+140)

Even considering how lethal Kayla McBride has been from beyond the arc this season, it's a bit jarring to see her at odds as short as +140.

That implies a 41.7% win probability -- more than double that of the next-closest contestant.

But it's well-warranted given her 2024 play and prior 3-point contest experience.

Entering the All-Star Break, McBride leads the WNBA in total threes made (76) and threes made per game (3.0). Her 42.7% mark from downtown ranks fifth among players with at least 3.5 attempts per game -- though McBride was easily the most efficient high-volume three-point shooter in the first half. Of the 13 players averaging at least 5.5 attempted threes per game, McBride is the only one shooting better than 40%.

She's nailed at least three triples in 12 of 25 games overall, including an eight-three outing in a road date with the Mercury. That's especially notable considering it came at Footprint Center -- the same arena the 3-point contest will be held.

On top of that, McBride is easily the most experienced contestant. This will be her third 3-point contest appearance after finishing as the runner-up in both 2018 and 2019.

She also benefits from a weaker field than many expected, with top shooters Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark both opting out of the event.

Consequently, I'm happy to lay +140 odds for McBride to win as my main wager for this event. She's the clear favorite.

Jonquel Jones to Score 18+ First Round Points (+220)

Jonquel Jones Winner (+1000)

Part of the reason I'm fine with backing McBride at such short odds is that Jonquel Jones is being severely undervalued. She has +1000 odds to win and +220 odds to score 18+ points in the first round.

Jones is the biggest underdog in the field, although her three-point shooting numbers are right in line with the other participants.

At the break, Jones is shooting 39.6% from beyond the arc. A career 37.8% three-point shooter, the eight-year vet has long established herself as one of the W's premier stretch bigs.

This won't be Jones' first rodeo, either. She finished as the runner-up in 2021 following a 27-point opening round.

She went on to score 24 in the championship round, making her worth a look to score 18+ first round points (+220).

Although Jones couldn't finish the job that season, the experience could come in handy in this year's event. Outside of McBride, Jones is the only other player with 3-point contest experience.

Taking Jones at +1000 is an intriguing way to get in on a longshot whose track record and skillset point to her being a threat on Friday.
