About Mystik Dan
Prior to the Kentucky Derby, Mystik Dan had placed third in the Arkansas Derby on March 3, 2024 and placed first in the Southwest Stakes on February 3, 2024.
Mystik Dan is trained by Ken McPeek, who also had a horse (Thorpedo Anna) win the Kentucky Oaks this year. This is the first time a trainer has won both races in the same year since 1952. Mystik Dan is McPeek's only first-place win in the Kentucky Derby.
Mystik Dan was bred by Lance Gasaway, 4G Racing, and Daniel Hamby. The horse is owned by Gasaway, Hamby, and 4G Racing in partnership with Valley View Farm.
Brian Hernandez, Jr., who often rides major horses for McPeek, is Mystik Dan’s regular jockey.
