Warriors vs. Lakers Game 2 Analysis

Coming off an emotional Game 7 victory over the Sacramento Kings, the Warriors dropped Game 1 at home to the Lakers to open the series. It's just one game, but the loss means the Warriors no longer hold homecourt advantage.

On one hand, that could be an issue for a Golden State side that struggled on the road in the regular season. On the other hand, the Warriors just won back-to-back road games in Sacramento to eliminate the Kings, so those struggles may be behind them.

The Warriors made 21 three-pointers in Game 1, well above their postseason average of 13.6, but they struggled from everywhere else on the floor. They shot just 40.6% from the field, their third-worst performance in the playoffs so far. The Lakers continued to misfire from behind the arc, making just 6 of their 25 attempts (24.0%), but won the battle of the boards (53-49) and shot 46.7% from the field.

Golden State is 1-3 this postseason when playing on one day of rest, compared to 3-0 on two days of rest. Their average points scored on one day of rest (109.3) in these playoffs is significantly lower than their average on two days of rest (121.0). The Lakers are 2-1 playing on one day of rest during these playoffs, averaging 113.7 points per game in the split.

The New York Knicks and Boston Celtics both dropped Game 1 at home in their conference semifinal series before bouncing back with a win in Game 2. The Warriors are favored to do the same, but it will be a tough task against an in-form Lakers team.
