East Lake Course Key Stats

Some of the narrowest fairways we get on the PGA Tour await the 30 golfers in the field this week for the TOUR Championship in the season's final test. There's a statistical emphasis on driving accuracy, as a result, though I tend to lean toward strokes gained: off the tee primarily and sprinkle in accuracy into the mix whenever that's the case because simply hitting fairways is never all that's required with the driver.

As far as the past results based on starting scores, it's unsurprisingly relevant.

Past net winners (i.e. accounting for starting strokes) and their starting strokes that season include Rory McIlroy (-4) in 2022, Patrick Cantlay (-10) in 2021, Dustin Johnson (-10) in 2020, and Rory McIlroy (-5) in 2019.

Of the 20 golfers starting at even par since the new format began in 2019, only one of them (5.0%) has finished in the top-10 in net scoring by the end of the event.

Two golfers starting at -1 climbed to the top 10 in net scoring, but more golfers at even par (9) got to the top 20 than golfers starting at -1 (5).

Basically, starting strokes matter a lot for finishing position (and therefore fantasy points), but between the 10 golfers starting at even par or -1, history says we can have some flexibility.
