Super Bowl Odds Update: Eagles Fly to the Top

After eight weeks of NFL regular season action, the Philadelphia Eagles are officially joint-favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook to win Super Bowl LVIII. Naturally, Philly currently shares that designation with the franchise they faced in last year's big game: the Kansas City Chiefs.

If the two wind up meeting for the Lombardi Trophy once again this season, it would be just the second time in history that we see the same teams in the Super Bowl for back-to-back years. Of course, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills for all the marbles in both 1993 and 1994.

Elsewhere around the league, the Cincinnati Bengals looked to be in top form versus the San Francisco 49ers last weekend. That gave "Who Dey" a nice boost on the Super Bowl odds board.

In worse news, Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles tendon at Lambeau Field over the weekend. As you might imagine, that sent the Minnesota Vikings' championship odds into a spiral.

Before NFL Week 9 gets underway with the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football, let's dive into the current Super Bowl betting market at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Notable Jumps

Philadelphia Eagles

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +500
Last Week: +600

At 7-1 straight up (SU), the Eagles have proven they can win in myriad fashions. Most recently, Philly traveled to the rival Washington Commanders and used four touchdowns in the second half to secure a come-from-behind road victory. Receivers A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Julio Jones all hauled in scores in the divisional win.

Philadelphia has continued to roll while fellow NFC powerhouse San Francisco is enduring a three-game losing streak. Essentially, that is paving a well-manicured path for the Birds to earn the conference's top seed for the second consecutive season. Should the campaign end as such, it will be tough for any team to win at Lincoln Financial Field amidst deep winter in the playoffs.

Cincinnati Bengals

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +1700
Last Week: +2600

After a dazzling performance out in Northern California, the Bengals are coming off their strongest win of the 2023 season.

Quarterback Joe Burrow looked much like himself in that contest, setting a single-game franchise completion record by completing 28 of 32 passes for 283 yards and 3 scores. Naturally, Ja'Marr Chase played the role of benefactor, finding the end zone and going over 100 yards receiving.

With the win over the Niners, Cincinnati has been victorious in three consecutive games -- all versus the NFC West. Keep in mind: the Bengals have appeared in back-to-back AFC championship games despite previously enduring slow starts.

At the moment, numberFire gives Cincy a 37.7% chance to make the postseason, which is really all this team needs. Still, "Who Dey" has a tough matchup this Sunday when the Bills come to town, and things always seem to get chippy and weird between those two sides.

Jacksonville Jaguars

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +2000
Last Week: +2300

As arguably the hottest team in the NFL right now, the Jacksonville Jaguars are riding a five-game winning streak. In terms of scoring, the offense and defense from Duval County are both ranked top 10.

Through the month of October, JAX managed to produce 27.2 PPG. However, will heading into their Week 9 bye cool them off at all? In Week 10, the Jags will be the first team to take on the 49ers with Chase Young added to San Francisco's D-line.

Jacksonville's defense has been quite stout against the run in 2023, allowing just 3.6 yards per carry to opposing rushers. Additionally, they have surrendered more than 24 points in a game just once this season, which surprisingly came against the Houston Texans and rookie signal-caller C.J. Stroud.

Genuinely, I would keep an eye on Duval to win it all.

Steep Drops

Minnesota Vikings

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +12000
Last Week: +5000

Just when they were building momentum, the Vikings seemingly crashed into an immovable brick wall.

Never mind that Minnesota has won their past three games (all over fellow conference foes), wily vet Kirk Cousins is officially out for the season with -- not to sound like a broken record -- a torn Achilles. Being that Captain Kirk is sidelined for at least the remainder of 2023, the Vikes subsequently traded for quarterback Joshua Dobbs. We'll see what exactly that looks like come Sunday at the Atlanta Falcons.

Prior to Cousins' devastating injury, Minnesota had +5000 odds in the big game market. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, they are now priced at 120-to-1 there. Keep in mind that superstar receiver Justin Jefferson (hamstring) is still on the IR. We may not see him until somewhere around Week 11.

Sorry, Twin Cities.

Los Angeles Chargers

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +4200
Last Week: +3500

Strangely enough, the Los Angeles Chargers produced a rare multi-score victory last Sunday yet had their Super Bowl odds inflate enough to warrant attention. The Bolts recently beat down the Chicago Bears 30-13, but their price to win the big game went from +3500 to +4200.

That sort of odds movement is noticeable to both sharp and common players. To compile weirdness, LAC's price increase actually occurred after the AFC West-leading Chiefs lost at the Denver Broncos.

Sure, the Chargers are only 3-4 overall, but they still have a shot to wind up in the postseason for the second straight year. numberFire's model gives them only a 16.9% chance to qualify for the playoffs in 2023, but that still lands them roughly middle-of-the-pack.

Regardless, Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler can be a scary offensive trio when rolling.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +13000
Last Week: +11000

After going 3-1 through the first four weeks of the current campaign, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have dropped their past three contests. The Bucs still have not suffered any defeat by more than 14 points in 2023, but their offense has been undeniably one-dimensional in recent showings.

At the moment, Tampa is producing just 77.86 rushing yards per game, which is the very worst rate in the NFL. In terms of scoring, the Buccaneers currently rank sixth on defense. However, they are way down at 27th out of 32 on offense, producing just 17.3 PPG in 2023.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield has been hit and miss in his first season for Tampa Bay. Mayfield's 5:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio is respectable, but he is averaging a lowly 6.5 yards per pass attempt.

That clip needs to be higher considering the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner has only been sacked 11 times all season.
