Philadelphia Eagles Draft Georgia DT Jalen Carter 9th Overall

Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter may well have been the top overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft but was ultimately selected ninth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.

In March, Carter pled no contest to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing, yet he was still a top-10 pick in the draft.

Carter is the top-ranked defensive tackle prospect in the NFL Next Gen Stats model for the year and also holds a top-four athleticism score in the model, as well.

Film scouts love what Carter puts on tape, and the 6'3", 314-pound tackle generated a 92.3 overall defensive grade from PFF, a top-three grade in the country for 2022.

The Eagles had a team need on the defensive line and got their guy with Carter.

Despite ranking as the best overall adjusted pass defense in 2022, according to numberFire's expected points model, the Eagles were 29th against the rush.

The landing spot couldn't be much better for Carter and the Eagles alike.

Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Outlook

Unlike other teams picking in the top 10 of the draft, the Eagles are heavy favorites (-355) to make the playoffs and are legitimate Super Bowl contenders (+900, second-best in the league), according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.

Philadelphia's win total is set at 10.5 with -140 odds on the over.
