Olympic Soccer: Best Bets for Saturday 7/27/24

The men's soccer tournament at the Paris Olympics continues on Saturday with the second round of group stage matches.

All teams are coming off a short turnaround as each squad played their opening group match on Wednesday.

Olympic Soccer Best Bets

Argentina vs. Iraq

Argentina First Half Moneyline (-140)

Argentina lost to Morocco, 2-1, in their opening match after a late game-tying goal was disallowed for offside. With only two teams advancing from each group, Argentina can't afford another slip-up in the group stage, and they will likely come out ready to rock against Iraq.

Going by the team-wide transfer values at Transfer Markt, this is a big-time mismatch. Argentina's team transfer value is $247.55 million while Iraq's comes in at $5.75 million.

Iraq picked up a 2-1 victory over Ukraine in their first-round match. That means they've got three points in the bank and are likely the team that Argentina will need to leapfrog to advance from the group -- adding all the more incentive for Argentina in this one.

With no room for error and a massive talent edge, Argentina check a lot of boxes, and I like their chances to go into the half with a lead.

Dominican Republic vs. Spain

Spain Over 2.5 Goals (-138)

Spain sputtered some in their opener, getting a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan but looking vulnerable at times. They should be able to get back on track Saturday versus the Dominican Republic.

Using the same Transfer Markt values as we did for the previous match, this matchup looks pretty lopsided. Spain's squad comes in with a cumulative transfer value of $370.30 million while the Dominican Republic's squad value stands at $10.53 million.

In short, there's a reason Spain is -800 to win the match and the Dominican Republic is -140 to be held scoreless.

I like Spain to go over 2.5 goals. Even in a meh performance against Uzbekistan, Spain netted two goals and put six shots on target. They also had a penalty saved, so they had plenty of chances. That should continue versus the Dominican Republic.
