Nuggets vs. Suns Game 2 Analysis
The Suns kept Game 1 close until three minutes into the second quarter. The Nuggets jumped out to a 10-point lead and never looked back. Denver maintained their excellent play at home, dominating Phoenix in points (125-107), rebounds (49-38), and steals (14-4) while turning the ball over less (10-16).
A small positive for the Suns in Game 1 was their efficiency; they shot 51.2% from the field. However, they struggled from behind the arc, making just 7 of 23 attempts (30.4%). Phoenix's turnovers -- combined with Denver's large margin on steals and rebounds -- allowed the Nuggets to attempt 17 more shots than the Suns, including 14 more threes.
To avoid an 0-2 hole heading back to Phoenix, the Suns will need to drastically improve their play in Game 2.
Denver was a worse side on the road this season, and their only loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round came away from home. The Suns' outlook would drastically change with a Game 2 win, which would see them take homecourt advantage away from the Nuggets. The Suns also lost the opening game of their first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers before bouncing back in Game 2.
As it stands, the Nuggets are favored to win the series (-172) with seven games the most likely outcome (+160).
