NHL Best Bets
New Jersey Devils 60 Minute Moneyline (+100)
The Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils are separated by just a few points in the Metro Division and they're both fighting to secure their spot in the playoffs. However, these two teams might be trending in opposite directions.
For the entire season, the Devils have allowed 2.72 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the seventh-worst in the league. Over the last three weeks, that has improved to a strong 2.06 Goals allowed in the same situation, which is the 13th-best in the league.
After a slow start to the season, the Devils' defense and goaltending have turned things around, which comes at the most important time of the season.
As for the Flyers, not only has their defense gotten worse, but their offense has also shown signs of struggling.
For their entire season, they have allowed 2.55 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is 14th in the league. That rate has jumped to 3.01 Goals, good for sixth-worst, in the last three weeks.
Their offense went from scoring 2.46 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations to 2.37 Goals over the last three weeks. That's not a massive change but running into the Devils' hot defense won't do them any favors.
While we may not see a ton of scoring, the Devils should be able to control the pace of the game and win this game in regulation.
NHL Player Props
Jack Hughes To Record 5+ Shots on Goal (+142)
When it comes to the Devils' offense, everything starts with Jack Hughes.
Despite only playing in 37 of their 53 games this season due to injuries, Hughes still leads the team with 168 shots on goal. That's good for 4.5 per game, putting him among the best in the league for shots on goal per game.
As a team, the Devils are known for keeping their foot on the gas and whether we look at the entire season sample size or just the last three weeks, they sit in the top seven of the league for Total Shot Attempts Created per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.
With a role on the second forward line and the first power-play unit, Hughes is the straw that stirs the drink when it comes to the Devils' offense.
For the Flyers' defense, they are consistently around the league average in terms of Total Shot Attempts Allowed per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, both over the last three weeks and the entire season.
Hughes and the Devils are hitting their stride at the right time and that should be on display at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night.
