Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and numberFire's projections may change throughout the day after this article is published.

NHL Prop Bets

Sebastian Aho Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-130)

With the Carolina Hurricanes down 1-0 against the New York Rangers, they need to step up the offensive pressure tonight.

Over the last several seasons, the Hurricanes have routinely been among the league leaders in Total Shot Attempts Created per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. A lot of shot attempts lead to a lot of shots of goals, which is something every offense wants to see.

In Game 1 against the Rangers, the Hurricanes were held to just 12 shots on goal through the first two periods and ended with 25 for the entire game. This is rather unusual for them and with a loss in the first game, they need to get back to their usual business and pile up the shots.

Sebastian Aho is the center on the top forward line and the first power-play unit for Canes, which has enabled him to rack up 13 shots on goal in their six playoff games so far. He's been over this mark in three of those six games but finished with just one shot on goal in Game 1.

Given the fact they are down 1-0 in the series, Aho and the Canes need to ramp up the offensive pressure to try and even up the series.

Artturi Lehkonen Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-130)

The Colorado Avalanche visit the Dallas Stars to get their second-round matchup started.

This is set to be a long and hard-fought series as we have two elite teams with plenty of playoff experience. We'll start with a shot prop since they are a bit more consistent, regardless of how many goals we see.

In the first round, Artturi Lehkonen was very solid with 8 points and 20 shots on goal in their five-game series against the Winnipeg Jets.

A role on the second forward line and the first power-play are strong roles to have and allowed him to go over this mark in four of the five games. I expect this series to tighten up and see fewer goals as it goes on, but the offense should be flowing in the first few games.
