Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Please note that betting lines and our projections may change throughout the day after this article is published.

NHL Prop Bets

Wyatt Johnston Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-154)

With an expanded role, Wyatt Johnston is emerging as a star in the playoffs.

Johnston is just 21 years old, yet he leads the Dallas Stars in goals (7) and shots on goal (42) in their 12 playoff games. With Roope Hintz out for another game, Johnston should remain as the center on the first forward line and the first power-play unit.

Johnston is averaging 3.5 shots on goal and has seen his offensive role expanded, yet, his prop is sitting at 2.5.

The Stars are up 3-2 in the series over the Colorado Avalanche and with this being a closeout game, the top lines will be seeing an extra shift or two, putting Johnston in a spot to capitalize with some shots.

Vladimir Tarasenko Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (+100)

A minimized offensive role puts Vladimir Tarasenko in a tough spot to hit the over on his prop.

The veteran comes in with only 12 shots on goal in 10 playoff games this year, having finished with zero shots on goal in five of those games.

He's simply not a primary shooter on a line that features Florida Panthers' captain Aleksander Barkov and 50-goal-scorer Sam Reinhart.

While the Panthers have controlled the offensive shot production over the Boston Bruins 175-107, Tarasenko hasn't played a big role in that through five games.

With Game 6 being a closeout for the Panthers, I'm not expecting too many offensive chances back-and-forth, which will limit shot production overall.
