NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Friday 10/27/23

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate, find a goalie, some stacks, and some value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

All advanced stats come via Natural Stat Trick unless otherwise stated.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

Cam Talbot, Kings ($7,300)

The Los Angeles Kings played the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday and won 6-3. The strength of LA this season certainly isn't goaltending, but they should be set up for success in this spot.

They'll turn to Cam Talbot in goal tonight after using Pheonix Copley on Tuesday. Talbot isn't some great goalie by any means at this stage of his career, but the salary and matchup make him a good option tonight.

Talbot and the Kings are -134 favorites tonight, yet he has a lower salary than Karel Vejmelka on the other side. The Coyotes have scored the eighth-fewest goals per game in the league this season.

It's an interesting slate for goalies, with no netminder having a salary above $8,000. There also isn't really a goalie who we can trust confidently, so using a favored goalie at just $7,300 will help us fit in some good skaters.

Stacks

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes came from behind last night to win. It was a much-needed victory after they had lost four of their previous five games.

The 'Canes got Sebastian Aho ($7,000) back into the lineup, which was key for their top line. He had an assist and five shots on goal. Aho is linking up with his old Finnish buddy Teuvo Teravainen ($5,000) at even strength while playing with Seth Jarvis ($6,300), both at even strength and the power play.

Carolina gets a matchup that we will likely target all season long; they're playing the San Jose Sharks at home. San Jose is allowing the most high-danger chances per 60 minutes and the second-most expected goals per 60.

The Hurricanes already scored six in a game at San Jose and should have no problems racking up goals tonight. They have an implied team total of a whopping 4.21 goals, by far the highest on the slate.

Los Angeles Kings

The Kings have a goalie who we can play, and they also have one of the best stacks on the board.

LA is averaging 4.50 goals per game so far, the most in the NHL. That includes six against these same Coyotes on Tuesday. The tricky thing about stacking the Kings is that their goals have been spread out so far.

You can go with the duo from the top line in Anze Kopitar ($7,000) and Adrian Kempe ($6,800), who will also play together on the power play. Kempe quietly had over 35 goals in each of the past two seasons. You can play Quinton Byfield ($3,400) for salary relief with this line, too.

Another way to stack the Kings would be rostering Kevin Fiala ($6,000) and Pierre-Luc Dubois ($6,200). They link up at even strength and on the first power play. Fiala leads the team with nine points so far.

No element of the Kings' stack will be too difficult to fit in salary-wise, and with their fourth-highest team total, they should be rostered on this slate.

Value Skaters

Andrei Svechnikov, W, Hurricanes ($3,000)

We get a gift with Andrei Svechnikov coming back from injury at the minimum salary. He's slated to skate on the second line for the Hurricanes in the best possible matchup.

The expectations for Svech coming off a torn ACL should be a bit lower than normal. However, it's tough for him to fail at this salary even in just 15 minutes or so.

Luke Hughes, D, Devils ($4,200)

Luke Hughes continues to see a lot of power play time for the New Jersey Devils and remains at a low salary.

The Devils have the second-highest implied team total tonight, even if it trails Carolina's by a lot. With the way Jack Hughes has been playing of late, a mini stack with the two Hughes brothers makes a lot of sense.

Luke hasn't lit the world on fire yet with just a goal and an assist so far, but if he keeps getting power play time, his salary will likely rise above this $4,200 tag.
