NHL Betting Picks for Tuesday 1/30/24: Blues Trying to Win Sixth Straight Game
As we get closer and closer to NHL All-Star Weekend, the schedule provides us with a two-game slate for tonight.
Whether it's moneylines or total goals, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season. It's a long 82-game campaign, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.
Let's dive into the best bets for tonight.

NHL Best Bets
Columbus Blue Jackets at St. Louis Blues
Blues ML (-170)
The St. Louis Blues are in a good spot tonight.
On a night when none of the top teams in hockey are playing, it makes the betting picks a bit tougher than usual. The good news is that the Blues offer us a fine enough option to kick off the two-game slate with an ideal matchup against the Metropolitan Division's worst team, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Beyond the Blue Jackets just having a rough season, there's plenty of reason to go with the Blues tonight. Over their last 10 games, the Blues have done a great job at getting the puck in the net, averaging 3.16 Goals For per 60 minutes -- good for 14th. The Blue Jackets have struggled big time in those same 10 games, allowing the most Goals Against per 60 minutes at a 3.89 clip.
Columbus has also scored just 2.43 Goals For per 60 minutes in this span, which gears up the Blues to take advantage.
St. Louis will have Jordan Binnington in net for the Blues while Daniil Tarasov will start for the Blue Jackets. Binnington has had a fine season, posting a 2.97 goals against average and .907 save percentage. Tarasov certainly doesn't have the same success, as he's been bad over 10 games. He's got a 3.79 goals against average and .881 save percentage, giving the Blues a clear advantage for the game.
Riding a five-game winning streak, the Blues are in the driver's seat to get another win and head into the break strong.
Seattle Kraken at San Jose Sharks
Over 5.5 Goals (+100)
The Seattle Kraken and San Jose Sharks haven't had the easiest of seasons, but we believe in them beating their low total set for tonight's game.
Seattle has specifically been on a roll as of late in the scoring department. Over their last 10 games, they're seventh in the NHL in scoring, potting 3.38 Goals For per 60 minutes in that time. The Sharks are only scoring 2.26 Goals For per 60 minutes, but their games have gone over the 5.5 Goals mark in three of the last four, thanks to their struggles on defense and own scoring luck.
Both teams have not been able to keep the puck out of the net, however, which is where we find ourselves relying on each team scoring rather than having a tough time doing so. The Sharks are allowing 3.43 Goals Against, and the Kraken are letting up 2.98 in the last 10 outings. If that's the average, then they should be able to get the over.
numberFire's model gives the Kraken and Sharks a 62.05% likelihood of hitting the over tonight.
