Whether it's moneylines or total goals, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season. It's a long 82-game campaign, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.

NHL Best Bets
San Jose Sharks at Detroit Red Wings
Red Wings -1.5 (-118)
Excitement is in the air for the Detroit Red Wings, and we're all in -- especially against the San Jose Sharks.
The Red Wings will be at home tonight, welcoming the Sharks in the final game of their East Coast trip. The excitement comes in the form of the debut of Patrick Kane as a member of the Red Wings.
The former Hart Trophy winner is coming off offseason hip surgery and should provide a spark to what has already been a good Red Wings lineup.
Kane should help them create offensive opportunities. Detroit has just a 53.6 Corsi For per 60 minutes, ranking bottom five in the NHL. On the flip side of that, they're already averaging 3.58 goals per 60 minutes, which ranks top five in the NHL.
San Jose has had their troubles all season long. They remain dead last in creating offense with a 48.84 Corsi For per 60 minutes and second-to-last in allowing opportunities (71.17 Corsi Against). The Sharks are averaging just 1.87 goals for and allowing 3.85 goals against -- even with their recent swing. Before their six-goal explosion against the New Jersey Devils, they had scored just 6 goals in 10 total road games. They have a decent swing in their last three games, but we know what this team is -- unlikely to keep up.
The Red Wings will send out starter Ville Husso and the Sharks will start Mackenzie Blackwood.
Husso has been serviceable in net -- posting a 3.48 goals against average and .891 save percentage. He also has saved 1.62 goals above expectation (GSAx). Blackwood has been quite similar, putting together his 3.72 goals against average, .899 save percentage, and 1.66 GSAx. There's no real advantage between the two, leaving skill players to decide this game.
There's a chance for this to be a high-scoring affair, but no matter how many goals are scored, expect the Red Wings to take care of business.
Minnesota Wild at Vancouver Canucks
Canucks ML (-130)
It's hard to not want to take the Vancouver Canucks at this stage of the season.
The Canucks have been one of hockey's best teams and should keep showing that tonight against the Minnesota Wild. It won't be easy; the Wild are red-hot, having won four straight games coming into this one. They're still just 9-10-4 on the campaign, so Minny isn't a team to worry about too much.
Vancouver's numbers have remained elite. They're still averaging the most goals per 60 minutes (3.87) and also display the seventh-fewest goals against per 60 minutes (2.68). All signs continue pointing up -- even if they're trading games right now with their opponents (4-4 in their last 8 games).
Minnesota are a middle-of-the-league team in many categories, including their 10th-ranked Corsi For (61.57), 15th-ranked Corsi Against (59.22), and 17th-ranked Goals For (3.13) -- all per 60 minutes. Where they struggle is allowing goals, allowing the seventh-most in the NHL per 60 (3.43).
The biggest difference between these two teams will be goaltending. Filip Gustavsson hasn't come close to the goalie he was a year ago. He's allowing 3.35 goals per game and has a .894 save percentage. He's also in the negative with -4.14 GSAx. The Canucks have Thatcher Demko, who has been great with his 2.46 goals against average and .918 save percentage. Demko also ranks third with 12.55 GSAx.
All arrows point to the Canucks tonight. We're taking their moneyline with confidence.
Philadelphia Flyers at Arizona Coyotes
Coyotes ML (-115)
It's time to give the Arizona Coyotes some respect.
The Coyotes are the hottest team in the NHL, winning five straight coming into tonight and showing no signs of slowing down soon. There's little reason to think it will slow down against the Philadelphia Flyers, who have overperformed so far.
Arizona is scoring at the 11th-best pace in the NHL, coming in with 3.29 goals per 60 minutes. They're also 10th in goals against per 60, limiting their opponents to 2.80. Philadelphia hasn't been as strong at scoring at 2.85 Goals For per 60 minutes. They are, however, good on the defensive end by limiting their opponents to 2.77 goals against per 60.
The main reason for riding with the 'Yotes tonight is the difference in net. Carter Hart has been good for the Flyers -- 2.55 goals against average, .913 save percentage, and 3.04 GSAx. All are numbers to be happy with, but he hasn't been Connor Ingram. The Coyotes' netminder has been one of the best stories in hockey this season. Ingram ranks 4th in goals against average (2.23) and 3rd in save percentage (.930). Where he dominates is goals saved above expectation, leading the NHL at 15.05. He gives them the edge.
numberFire's model believes in the Coyotes, giving them a 62.92% likelihood of hitting tonight -- much better than the 53.5% implied probability.
Riding their five-game winning streak, the Coyotes are at home and are feeling it. Let's keep it rolling tonight.
