NFL Draft Betting: Which Team Will Make the First Overall Pick?

The 2024 NFL Draft is over a month away, so mock drafts, the NFL combine results, and Pro Day results are going to be the primary talking points among the draft community for the coming weeks. Since the end of the 2023-2024 season, the Chicago Bears have possessed the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft.

Even though it's assumed that the Bears will stay put at No. 1 and make a selection, FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Draft odds has a market labeled "Team to Select First-Overall" for the 2024 NFL Draft. The two options within the market are pretty straightforward: the Bears or the field.

Let's take a look at which team will be making the first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Chicago Bears (-1000)

Backing the Bears to keep the No. 1 pick in this year's draft doesn't present any value at -1000 odds. The popular opinion on what Chicago will elect to do at the top of the draft is move on from Justin Fields and select Caleb Williams out of USC in hopes to find their franchise signal-caller.

Williams -- who has -1600 odds to be the first pick in the NFL Draft -- has been a coveted quarterback prospect since he began his collegiate career at Oklahoma in 2021. The dynamic quarterback followed head coach Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to USC, producing 8,170 passing yards, 72 passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in his two years for the Trojans.

The quarterback position has typically dominated the beginning of drafts due to it being the most important position in the NFL, and Williams is the consensus No. 1 prospect. While keeping Fields -- and improving the roster around him -- is a possibility for Chicago, all signs point toward dealing away Fields being the likely outcome.

There have been reports that the Bears would need a "historic haul" for them to consider moving off of the first-overall pick. Even if it isn't Williams taken first, the Bears are expected to be the first team to hand their pick in when the draft begins.

But when you tie together Williams' -1600 odds to go No. 1 and the Bears' -1000 odds to select first, it sure seems like Williams is headed to the Windy City.

The Field (+520)

Besides the Bears, there are a handful of other teams that are potentially seeking a new quarterback. The Washington Commanders -- who currently have the No. 2 overall pick -- and the New England Patriots -- owners of the No. 3 pick -- are other teams inside the top five who are looking to add a quarterback this offseason.

Other teams who have been rumored to be wanting to make a move for a quarterback are the Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders. Could one of these teams make a loaded offer in hopes to secure the No. 1 pick to take Williams or one of the other premier quarterback prospects?

It is certainly possible.

At the same time, it seems like a matter of when -- and not if -- Fields gets traded to a new team this offseason. The Falcons, Vikings, and Raiders have been listed as potential suitors for Fields. If Chicago deals Fields, it would both make QB an even bigger need for the Bears while also lowering the number of teams who would consider moving up for the first overall selection.

There's a scenario where the Bears give Fields another year with D.J. Moore and a new offensive coordinator -- Shane Waldron -- while also using the picks they acquire by dealing the first pick to strengthen the roster around him. While a situation where Chicago trades back from the No. 1 pick is unlikely, you can never say never in the NFL.
