NFL Betting: Who Will Be the Patriots' QB1 to Open 2024?

Still looking to right the ship in the post-Tom Brady era, the New England Patriots have once again drafted a high-profile quarterback in the first round.
Notably, signal-caller Mac Jones never completely meshed with "The Patriot Way" as the franchise recently traded Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Subsequently, New England selected quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall pick at the 2024 NFL Draft.
Also, keep in mind: former Patriot Jerod Mayo has taken over for Bill Belichick as head coach in Foxborough.
Maye -- a dynamic QB from the North Carolina Tar Heels -- will likely not be casted immediately into the fire as the Pats are also employing the services of journeyman signal-caller Jacoby Brissett.
Naturally, FanDuel Sportsbook is offering myriad NFL betting markets for the upcoming campaign. Of those futures, the "Starting QB" tab has odds on several different position battles at the signal-caller spot.
When it pertains to New England, it will almost certainly be Brissett or Maye at quarterback in the opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Let's dive into both players' odds to start in Cincy.

New England Patriots Week 1 Starting QB
*Void if Neither Quarterback Starts Week 1.
Jacoby Brissett (-350)
Entering his ninth season, Jacoby Brissett is back where his professional journey first began.
Brissett was originally a third-round draftee of the Patriots back in 2016, but the wily veteran has since played ball for four different NFL franchises, logging the majority of his years with the Indianapolis Colts.
Throughout his pro tenure, Brissett has compiled efficient passing figures -- most of which have come under fill-in/temporary conditions. He sports a 61.3% lifetime completion clip while holding a 51-23 TD-INT ratio.
As a member of the Washington Commanders, Brissett did not make any starts in 2023. A year prior (2022), he started 11 contests for the Cleveland Browns, earning a 62.0 QBR (eighth-best) along the way.
In mid June, FanDuel is labeling Brissett as a steep -350 favorite to start Week 1 of the regular season for New England.
Drake Maye (+255)
From Connecticut to Maine, everyone wants to know, "when will we see Drake Maye in real action?" Well, as it is now, FanDuel Sportsbook is giving the rookie Maye +255 odds to win the starting job immediately out of the gate.
The 2022 ACC Player of the Year offers a prototypical quarterback frame. Maye stands at athletic 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. He is a native son of North Carolina, and prior to shining at UNC, he grew up dominating Charlotte's prep circuit in football and basketball.
Throughout two seasons as the Tar Heels' starter, Maye produced 78 all-purpose touchdowns while committing just 16 total interceptions. Still, it was his 2022 campaign that put NFL scouts on notice. Maye chucked the pigskin for 4,321 passing yards that season, earning a 91.5 grade at Pro Football Focus.
When looking at FanDuel's odds to be named Patriots' starting quarterback for Week 1, Maye is clearly the underdog, yielding a 28.2% implied probability in this market. Of course, some of that could be due an ankle injury sustained late last November.
In Maye's final clash against the North Carolina State Wolfpack (Nov. 25), the dual-threat quarterback was tackled awkwardly during a scramble attempt. Maye finished the game, but was noticeably in pain; Perhaps the Pats tread lightly with their rookie quarterback this time around.
